Evenin!

Note the strategically placed mug. Sad
My SRAD600's just sprang an oil leak...
https://i755.photobucket.com/albums/xx191/Non-Adhesive/photo4.jpg

I was just getting petrol ready for the 110 mile ride home, when I spotted a drop of oil on the forecourt.
Though I best check in case it wasn't the last car on the forecourt and ended up with a hand full of oil.

The leak seems to have stopped now the engines cooled down.

It's not from the sump plug. Oil is dripping off the bottom of the left hand fairing, opposite side to the oil filter if memory serves.

I've no tools or anything down here at my Mon-Fri let! Not even any Allen keys to remove the fairing & have a look.
So tomorrow I'll be tool, oil & filter shopping. May as well do a full oil change while I'm at it.

Any idea's on a likely culprit for a leak on the left hand side of the engine?

She's being temperamental, she must know I was eyeing up a TL1000R last night. Rolling Eyes

You've not got a scottoiler or similar have you?? weather warming up oil runs thinner, builds up and drips down from the front sprocket area. Just had to turn mine down.

Sadly no scottoiler or anything.

I'll get up at the crack of dawn to buy some tools, so I can find the source.

There is a oil hose at the front on that side, maybe coming from there, you will never know till you take the fairing off

to be honest all you need for starters is a phillips head screwdriver and 2 allen keys (one 3mm and one 4mm)

whip off the fairing and have a good look, only takes 10 mins to take the lower fairing off the srad's and you will have good visual access to 90% of the engine

Cheers guys. Hopefully its the oil hose, sounds like an easy fix Smile .

I know it's a dead simple job getting the fairings off to have a look.
But I only rent this lady's spare room out Mon - Thurs nights, literally all I have here is a few work clothes, a laptop, a bicycle & my bike gear.

Lesson lean't I'll replace the bikes tool kit & fill it with essentials!

Walked to the late night co-op no luck, nothing useful in the Home/Car sections, not even allen keys!

Look at what tools you need exactly, then go down the eBay route, will probably be the cheapest bet. Or Halford's.

Find your local Halford's and go down, they're open until eight IIRC. Or B&Q, I think they sell tools too.

Cheers, Im all for the eBay route normally. I've got a mountain of tools but their all 110 miles up north, where I should've been heading tonight.

Usually I do all my maintenance /servicing at weekends, I wasn't prepared for an emergency down here... which was asking for trouble I now realise.

So it'll be a case of finding whatever's closest, quickest & easiest in this small town Thumbs Up

If there's a supermarket there, you could get some allenkeys from there, good luck with your mission.

Arse!!

Still had my fingers crossed when I was removing the fairing that it'd be a dead washer or loose bolt.
No such luck, it was blatantly obvious as soon as I removed the fairing where the oil was coming from...

https://i755.photobucket.com/albums/xx191/Non-Adhesive/oilhoselarge.jpg

I've had a dig on Robinsons Foundry https://www.robinsonsfoundry.co.uk/content/pages/shop/parts/Suzuki/GSX-R/GSX-R600/V%20W%20X%20Y%201997-2000%20SRAD and a flick through the servicing manual couldn't see any engine diagrams which identify the part.

Found an old ebay ad (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Suzuki-99-GSXR-600-SRAD-Engine-Oil-Hose-Feed-large-/121092675041) which identifies it as the Engine Oil Hose Feed Large.

Anyone have any idea's what the part number is?

It looks like the part number is 1128133E00.

Part 6 on the diagram at https://www.cmsnl.com/suzuki-gsx-r600-1998-w_model13566/partslist/FIG3.html#results

I'm guessing your bike is missing the V piece of the fairing? Fuck that's corroded badly. I rode my srad for 2 years without cleaning it, all weathers, covered in salt, and it didn't look anything like that.

I've got the full set of fairings on it including the v piece.

It's lived outside under an all weather cover for 2 years of me owning it. Bought it from a friend who kept it in a garage for the year he owned it.
Who knows how the previous prevous owner to him kept it. Judging by some of the worst home electrics I've seen for the crap mini indicators (which I've replaced), I doubt he cared much about it.

Awesome thanks Robby & Ja7, didn't see your earlier posts.

It's been rather rusted for the 2 years I've had it so I guess it was about due.

I've been meaning to change the oil & filter anyway the last 2 weekends but not got round to it. I'll have pull me finger out & do it, once I've found a new pipe.

Thanks for the info guys!

Old v New!
https://i755.photobucket.com/albums/xx191/Non-Adhesive/OldNew.jpg

New hose, 2 cylinder head union bolts & 4 gaskets plus delivery £99.97.
Having my SRAD back on the road... priceless! Very Happy

All fitted & torqued up to 25nm
https://i755.photobucket.com/albums/xx191/Non-Adhesive/photo5.jpg

Does make the rest of the engine/exhaust look shocking!
Especially the exhaust manifold, I'd like to take it off then VHT black it or replace with a refirbed part, but the exhaust bolts are seriously rusted with a high chance of rounding/shearing Sad

Glad you got it sorted, you went with a brand new hose in the end, my exhaust is the same, and would like to spray it, but the studs are shocking, I was thinking about buying another getting it painted and paying a garage to change it, let them deal with snapped studs lol

Preparation is key. Soak the bolts for days/weeks in penetrating oil. Then you can attack them very gently. Loosen a tiny amount, then tighten it again. Looking for the left/right motion to crack the corrosion. Each time you can turn it left just a little more until they turn freely and you can take them out.

Thanks, I sprayed the hose bolts with penetrating fluid daily for a week before removing the hose.
The bottom bolt really didn't want to come out, eventually after continuously tapping the wrench with my palm it came free.

The exhaust fixings are in a hell of alot worse condition, when I get round to it I'll try the left/right motion too. Thumbs Up

The left/right trick really does work.

When I attempted my exhaust bolts, I just tried to undo it straight off. I snapped the bolt. My Dad attempted the other 3 bolts with the left/right trick and they all came out nicely Very Happy
