Didn't do it / notice it yesterday but at 5500rpm my bike seems to be making a noise that sounds like a truck horn in the distance but doesn't do it at any other engine speed.

By holding the revs constant I can make the sound for as long as I can hold the throttle constant.

It's not related to road speed as ive done it in 1st and at motorway speeds.

Any ideas.

Bike has a double bubble screen fitted so wondered at first if it was wind vibration.

The bike did get rained on overnight as I forgot to put the cover on it but don't see how that can have affected anything

I don't know what that could be, have you had a look for any obvious loose screws? Particularly around the screen, that can rattle for me and make some noise.

Sounds like something resonating at the engine vibrations at 5500rpm.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

Fair question, not sure. I checked if it was road speed related but not if it did it when stood.

Minor differences to yesterday's run.
Rained overnight and bike started out wet
Road was damp
Had a small item of luggage bungee netted to the pillion seat
Had set the alarm off when starting the bike.

That's your answer. Will be the bungee vibrating, kinda like a guitar string.

Various bits of my ZZR used to rattle at different revs but that was mostly down to half the fairing lugs being snapped/bodged/damaged. I think the bungee strap theory is a good one. Failing that, go and check for loose screws.

As posters above have said, sounds like something vibrating/resonating to me. I had a rear fairing that wasn't screwed quite tight enough that used to do it.

Makes excellent sense

Will put the bungee on differently and see if I can get a different note Smile
