hi,
afaik hammerite isnt for use in gun, with compressor, but im sure you could thin it down & try.
but whats wrong with going to a car paints place & buying either 500ml or 750ml or even 1L tin of paint? (base coat)
shouldnt cost much more than hammerite & it will be much more suitable & give a smoother finish. unless you specifically want that "hammerite" look"?
or are you wanting an unusual colour or fancy glittery paint finish? or just avoiding the 2 pack method?
could still get a tin of 1k paint specifically for that job....
cheers,

Thanks for the replies guys. Excuse my naivety, I haven't done a paint job before.
Is filler primer what I've seen called 2k primer? That's the stuff you sand down after spraying right and it has a hardener you mix in? What are the benefits and disadvantages of 2k over 1k? The setup I'll be using will have filters for everything in-line so that should help but by that do you mean I should also filter the paint and the thinner before loading it into the gun (and if so how)?
Gaz, I'm not going for a Hammerite look but a normal finish which is what I thought the 'smooth' variety would do (at least that's what I've read anyway). When you say car paints place, can I just stroll in there and take my pick? Do the brands not matter? I've not even seen a specialised auto paints store before.
Cheers! |

use a two pack available from your local paint specialist if you use a clear over base (lacquer over coloured matt paint) you will not need a primer filler unless you are painting over something realy rough. two pack will stick to anything and dries in a few hours,
wet flat with 400 wet and dry between coats, if the lacquer is a little dull wet flat with 1000 or 1200 wet and dry
if my bike is not on the post click on the link at the end of my post for my bike less than £80 spent on paint. a nice blue yam 2ma ??? ____________________ It`s all powerfull white mans magic
