Where abouts would that be? Would that effect all of the electrics or just the starter?

All the electrics - its a 40A fuse from memory and its the main fuse.

IIRC it's near the rear brake reservoir. Thumbs Up

Hmm, reckon it could be the reg/rec? It had a knackered one when I bought it which I swapped out. Other battery could be fooked as that was the one in it when I bought it which I switched for a motobatt

It's not always easy to see if a fuse has blown. Have you got a spare fuse that you can stick in there to test it?

ETA it should be a 30A fuse.

That tends to suggest the main fuse is intact.

Start checking for loose connections - is the main earth ok?

Aye checked everything was connected and gave everything I could get to a good wiggle about.

Looks like multimeter will have to be purchased tomorrow and some testing done. At my mams so all my tools are back at home 140 miles away lol

At least the Honda manual is available for download - the wiring diagrams are nice and easy to follow.

Good luck with it. Thumbs Up

Was it pouring down with rain when it died on you because you may have water in one or more connector blocks of the wiring harness underneath fuel tank that continues on to the ignition because that can cause a short. You need WD40 to spray or similar to drive out the moisture!

Like others have stated replace main fuse just in case its a bad one and you should have really carried a spare set which is usually found in the within the main fuse box too, but at least you will know the next time for the possibility of a faulty/blown main fuse.

these are the fuses found in a hornet 900

Fuse Main fuse 30 A
PGM-FI fu se 20 A
Sub fuse 20 A X 1, 10A X 4

Sounds to me like reg/rec the wiring plugs melted themselves on my gsxr a couple of weeks ago and lost all power, it would bump start with no lights on but absolutely nothing with them on.

Actually, the night before it was pissing down when I was riding, battery was dead in the morning charged it up and it started fine again, looks like the charge from this morning ran out somewhere along the route and due to doing a consistant motorway speed the engine kept firing as the engine cut out when I slowed to give way after leaving the motorway. .

Off to b&q for a meter in a mo, battery is charged again. Will see what happens

Cheers for the help all!.

Sounds like your reg/rec is screwed. It's common on the Hornets. I had to change mine a few months ago. Just wasn't charging the battery and the bike completely cut out several times before I realised it wasn't the battery.

Charge the battery and start the bike and check the output from the alternator to the battery. Should be above 13.5ish at 5k revs. Stick the lights on and such, see it drop, and see if it picks up again.

Had the same thing happen to me. Rode about 120-130 miles down the motorway, came off, did a few more miles without stopping. Came to stop at a junction and the bike just cut out. No power.

Turns out the battery was as flat as a pancake. Somehow the fact that the bike was in motion must have been keeping it going, but it just couldn't idle.

Anyway, turns out that it wasn't my reg/rec, it was the charging circuit. Wired the reg/rec directly in to the battery and all problems disappeared! I suspect it was due to a leaking earth.

Yup definitely not charging, spare battery was also completely toast at 9v lol.

Put a working battery in and not seeing any increase in voltage with revs.

Will limp it home tomorrow with the 2 batteries, got a reg/rec on order

Got a cheap spare battery to get it home tomorrow, cheaper for me to potentially knacker a spare battery than take other transport

Volt meters are always a life saver as they tell you so much what is going on with an electrical device - good going finding out the route of the problem!

aye, picked up a pocket multimeter from b&q for £5, actually quite impressed with it, better than my more expensive one at home and much smaller physically, reckon i'll keep it under my seat

ordered a whole new set of fuses too as the ones in it are all over the place amp wise, completely wrong compared to what the label on the fuse box suggests

When it arrives, stick some heat sink compound between it and the frame to help with heat transfer. Thumbs Up
