My 50cc moped makes a rattling noise when idling but when i accelerate the noise stops, the noise seems to be coming from the kick-starter/crank side of the bike. Any IDEAS?

Nope, bearing in mind it broke down the other week and would not start because of the pistons and barrel ETC so we bought new parts but instead of buying a new 50cc cylinder kit we went a head and bought a 70cc cylinder kit, sports air filter, jets and some other stuff, but my dad tuned the carburettor and we got it running and there was a rattling sound, but when i accelerated the sound goes and then 3-4 minutes later it would cut out, my dad thinks its the choke thats making it cut out so we have bought one of them. NOTE: NOT SURE WHAT THE RATTLING IS? clutch?

Out of curiosity, have you informed the DVLA and your insurers that you've converted the bike from a moped to a motorcycle? And does your licence entitle you to ride a motorcycle?

Money spent on repairs should have been put to a 125 imo.

Take the side case of and let it idle, see which side it's coming from, clutch of variator, I doubt it would be clutch, wiggle the variator plate around to see if there's any give.

When was the last time you checked the rollers?

can we start with the most basic of information please Question

what the fuck is the bike?

i used to own a honda melody in 1999 (my first "bike" and only ped)

on tick over it would rattle like a son of a bitch on pick up it was fine, turned out it was weak springs on the centrifugal clutch Thumbs Up

it maybe the rollers in the variator have worn down a bit make shure there's no flat spots on them,, but if you have gone from a 50cc to a 70cc bore then on top of jetting you will have to put new lighter rollers in as some 70cc kit make more power highter up the rpm,

why if you have a 125 cbt ar you 70ccing a 50? to run the 70cc kit you will have to get a desent spots /raceing exhurst as a standerd one may choke its performance, harder clutch spring to avoid boging at lights, you may have to pre mix the oil as the oil pump may not keep pace resulting in semi sezzing,,,
its a hole word of pain trust me

Since everyone is saying rollers, we will have a look tonight and my bike already has a performance exhaust, we also bought some other stuff with it like a sports airfilter. But 2 days a go we got it starting and yesterday it didnt want to start so we have bought a choke.

ups n downs on air filters,, ups, thay look cool,,, downs, carbs ar a pig to jet right and unless its "race tuned" thay do nout and burn a lot of fuel for 0% performance gain and thay get wet verry easy

iv had a scooter tuned up with £1500 in the engine, its all fun over taking cars at 70mph+ but evey day i had some sort of issue, i now sit hear n wish i spent the muny on somthink else

Choke has just arrived and we are going to fit that and see if it works and also we are going take out the rollers and see if they are worn.

Taking off the air filter and covering the port 2/3rds with your hand would have let you know if you needed a new choke, have you gone with auto or manual?

Is there any wiggle from the shaft that the variator is mounted on?

Best of luck with that.

Since you're changing the vehicle from a moped to a motorcycle and increasing the tax class the DVLA are likely to want you to inform VOSA who may or may not want you to take the vehicle for an MSVA test (Which it will likely fail).

On the insurance front if you can find an insurance company to cover a modified "motocycle" of this type with what I can only presume is a 17 year old on a CBT riding it for a less then ridiculous amount of money then I will be quite impressed.

With regards to the problem you're having it could be any number of things. It would be assistive to us if you could get a video of the bike running so we can hear the noise. Have you actually checked that the variator and clutch have been correctly re-assembled and torqued properly?

Get that video up so we can have a listen Thumbs Up
