First ever Disciplinary

Well I've been away all this week, get home with a letter from my office manager stating I am required to attend a disciplinary on Monday.

I work in a breakdown call centre (call assist)

One of the questions we ask is if you have any pets or animals.

The job in questions a chicken was logged (2300 at night)

The person who took the details then rung me as I had sent one of our agents out and said it could be frozen he has just left asda so the hahahahaha came the who department pissed themselves.

I pulled myself together, called the client and asked if his chicken was in a cage or loose, at which point every in the room laughed behind me which the client heard and at which point i laughed, and quickly ended the call.

So my question is - I've heard the call, and you cannot hear anyone else, and the clients complaint states he felt embarassed because you could hear everyone else laughing then I laughed.

How much trouble should i really be in?

First time being in trouble, been here a year, also a first aider and other extra things you can do before being a supervisor

So you weren't laughing, and acted professionally. I don't see how you can be held responsible or the actions of the rest of your office.

you are entitled to have someone sit in with you, if you are in a union you can have a union rep , otherwise you can have a work colleague or someone else sit in with you.
You will probably get either a verbal warning (usually on record for 3 months) or a written warning (on record for 6 months), I doubt you will get more than that or you may just be offered a refresher on customer service.
BTW if you want someone in with you and they cant attend on said date you can have the meeting postponed to within 5 working days of original meeting.

Like others stated you did laugh and nobody else was heard at the time either except you can call upon witnesses, and I would mention in honesty that your colleagues were also laughing which eventually made you start.

Problem is you should have apologised straight up and NOT hung up the phone on the caller, but explained the funny side of it and no doubt he would chuckled with it too if he thought about it. Except if he didn't then the caller was a stuck up twat not realising the funny side of it.

So, explain with a witness by you and hopefully someone within a union or someone that was there at the time that support your claim that the roared with laughter. I wouldn't be surprised that there would be security cameras overlooking the office or the laughter may have been picked up on someone elses call too which they can quite easily check for?

Anyway, you got caught laughing and state that you will be more professional from now on and not be lead astray by a group laughter next time of if someone elses call sounds funny!

Probably just going through the motions that they have to go through when they get an official complaint. How the arse of a customer didn't realise that telling a breakdown place you have a chicken in the car is funny is beyond me... what a dull bastard he must be.

Lul, same happened to me today kinda. I work in maintenance, some faggot student calls up whining about daddy longlegs being in his kitchen and how it's endangering his health, bearing in mind this is the third time he's called about it. Everyone was laughing and I broke out in laughter too but we'll see what comes of it. My boss was next to me so should be fine.

You shouldn't have hung up on the guy, you should have explained that the office were asking about the chicken, as they hadn't delt with a chicken before, it was unusual they thought it was funny and were pulling your leg.

This complaint is just a ticking off really and will be one of many in your working life.

Next time ask has the chicken got a name.
