So I had my first crash today Sad

Was riding along a main road, just gone through a set of traffic lights that had turned to amber as I went through. Taxi driver pulling out of a give way side road saw lights turned to amber and thought 'no traffic ever goes through on amber' and pulled out looking in completely the wrong direction.

Horn pressed, braking, "WHAT THE FUUUUUCK" then crashed into the front of his car, straight over the bonnet and landed square on my back. Ouch Sad

As I was getting up, someone was running over on the phone to emergency services, lots of witnesses supporting me about and what not. Within two minutes of the crash another taxi had turned up claiming to see the whole thing though! Evil or Very Mad Will see if he's still claiming that when I tell him I have the CCTV from the pub across the road. Apparently they've said I went through on red, which is unlikely seeing as there was a car behind me that went through too.

Title because he didn't even say the dreaded "Sorry mate..."

Helpful PCSO lady that showed up got all his details, which I then passed onto my insurance. Getting a call from the solicitors on Monday and another call about collection of my bike/a hire bike. Just a bit worried about him counter claiming, but oh well.

But yeah, I now know what it feels like to crash Rolling Eyes

Make sure you also report him for insurance fraud so that him and his friend go down. If it's on CCTV then it's an easy cop for the coppers!

Hopefully you get back on the road soon!

Brool Cory Sto.

Been to see the sawbones yet? Get in there the instant that you feel any back pain, and I don't mean for cash-in, I mean for your long term benefit. You can be damn sure that the taxitwat will have "whiplash".

Got witness contact details?

Got a copy of the CCTV yet?

Absolutely hammer on the fact that they are conspiring to commit (at least) insurance fraud. Make that the first thing you say in every communication.

I'd get down to the cop shop and report that as a crime as well, explain that it's open and shut, you've got loads of witnesses and there is CCTV, get a crime number.

Best of luck, I hope taxitwat and his chum get reamed on it.

Taxi drivers, or at least those of a certain persuasion, are complete bastards when it comes to accidents and trying to sue you. Make sure you cover your ass as best possible.

Ahh bolton, full of nobhead taxi drivers, specifically asians, the whites aren't too bad from what i've seen, unless they're women, (there's a few!) just like here in blackburn!

If I wasn't injured, in your shoes I probably would've ended up whacking them both. I'd get done for assault in the end but it would be so worth it! It would be treated as a seperate case to the actual collision aswell I'd imagine so it shouldn't mess up the investigation.

Hope you get it sorted, do what others have suggested and get them done for insurance fraud. Also try and get the one that turned up out of the blue as a "witness" done for perverting the course of justice just for that extra kick in the teeth Twisted Evil

I would report the suspected insurance fraud to the police, your insurer and the local authority for the issuing of taxi licences.

Could not only be conspiring to commit insurance fraud but also borderline perverting the course of justice, depending on the intentions of the second taxi driver and how far he's prepared to lie.

Shouldn't be an issue. It's perfectly legal (as in: there's no offence committed) to cross on amber. If taxitwat was also waiting on the lights, then he did commit an offence by passing the controlled stop line on anything other than green. In any case, he could and should have seen OP proceeding and not pulled out regardless of the lights.

I quite often don't attempt to stop on an amber if there is half a chance I'd come close to locking the wheels. You can also adjust the distance if it's in the wet and you're carrying a pillion.

Wet is 4 seconds to stop safely isn't it?

Lets hope the police and insurance companies get signed statements from both drivers before using the CCTV to do them both for fraud Very Happy

I know that in lots of cities the taxi drivers aren't who their taxis are registered as being driven by. So illegal immigrants A, B and C also drive Ds taxi making it available round the clock.

Also, while it says "prohibition", it's advisory: Section 10 only lists failing to stop for a red as an offence, so you can't get done with a TS10 for blowing through an amber (although you could in theory be done for Due Care).

It is an absolute offence to pass the stop line while red-and-amber is showing, but only us filthy pedants actually wait for a clear green (while doing shoulder checks to catch a cyclist bombing up the inside).

Taxi driver pulling out of a give way

If it was a give way, rather than another road controlled by the same set of lights, then I would have thought it makes little difference if the OP went through on amber - the taxi has a duty to give way to traffic on the main carriageway.

Yeah, traffic lights I went through was just a crossing, the road he was pulling out of was about 5 meters down the road from the lights.

Gonna pop into the nearby pub tomorrow to ask for CCTV, think one of their cameras covers the lights and and side road he pulled out of. Lots of witnesses from the pub and surrounding areas gave details, passed onto the insurance company already.

I'll draw the obligatory shitty paint diagram when I wake up. Had a proper look at the bike too, s'not pretty Sad

Irrelevant even if you did go through on red - you're there to be seen and the taxi is failed to give way.

If they give you any gyp, say it's a "subject access request" and slap £10 on the bar.

But really, I'd be down the cop shop first.
