I walked into the house last night and the wide was watching Vampire Diaries Thumbs Down Thumbs Down Thumbs Down

So I walked out again and got to work on my front sprocket. I hadn't looked at it since buying the bike and riding it through winter and i was fairly certain it would need a clean Confused

So went from this;

To this;

I gave the inside of the sprocket cover a really good clean. The clutch mechanism was caked in crud and now its all nice and clean.
One thing i didn't do was lube any of it after i cleaned it. Should I have?

Also, on the last pick there is a rod sticking out circled. What is it? it was covered in what i can only describe as thread or cotton. Its now cleaned back to bear metal. Does that need greasing?

2 hours well spent if you ask me.

Thanks.

Thanks,

I figured it was something to do with the clutch or gear box but i can quite fathom how pulling up on the clutch cable makes something that is 90 degrees to it, go in.

its voodoo i tell yee

It's not. It's the camera on my phone with a dodgy focus. I checked the sprocket carefully. That was the point in me taking the cover off in the first place.

She loves being called wide Embarassed

So, do I need to lube these ball bearings jobby wotsit doodaas

Was it difficult taking that case cover off and putting it all back together again?
I only ask as when I clean my chain, the moment the chain runs back through the front sprocket housing it gets shitty and dirty again, that cant be a good sign right? Shocked

I tell you one thing mate if you pulled that rod out and pushed it back in without oiling it you will have broken the seal.

I was gentle with mine, and the sod still leaked like mad.... Gs500 I assume?

Keep an eye on the bottom of the case for oil. In bad cases it will run onto the shifter.

It was a piece of piss. The bolts were quite stiff though and they are different lengths from the different places they came from. So I just laid them out on the floor the way they came out.

On my bandit you have to be careful you know the angle of the dangle for the gear changer arm. I marked the alignment of mine before I took it off. There is a speed sensor cable (I think) that I had to be careful not to trap when it went back on.

I went to town with WD40 to clean the inside. By the sounds of it, you need to do the same!

I didn't push by hand but I did operate the clutch. Isn't there oil on the inside? What I mean is the gear box is soaked in it?

If you didn't pull it out and clean it you are fine. Take it out, clean it, oil it, insert VERY gently.

yeah there is oil behind there (well when the engine runs at least)

Cheers man, I've got a proper torque wrench now so may aswell use it.

No worries on the removing and adjusting the gear lever foot pedal though, I've pulled my bloody hair out in frustration over the course of days adjusting that thing last time I got new boots, I'm practically a pro at that now Thumbs Up

There is also some kind of weird glue along some of the seal around my case cover, anybody know whats up with that? Confused
