Hi,

Assuming you have the AM6 engined RS50 which is any RS50 pre-MY06 I believe, then it is but a simple solution. If you are not familiar with the process of bump starting a car or motorcycle then I suggest you do this now.

What you need to do is to put the bike in first, pull the clutch in and instead of bumping it forwards, push the bike backwards before releasing the clutch in order to turn the engine over. This should fix all of the issues you stated above.

All the best,
Keith.

If you have the RS50 from pre 2007, it may also be a good idea to have someone else push you backwards as you may not get enough speed by yourself.

This is due to the huge compression that is found on a post 2007 engine.

Thinking about it now, it could actually be a port polishing issue. I'd suggest feeding sand in through you air intake meanwhile running the engine. You have to do this at the engine side of the air filter or else it won't get through.

It essentially acts like sandpaper and polishes your cylinder and piston, allowing it to run more efficiently. It is the best upgrade you can do for less than a few hundred pounds, other than a powerband upgrade obviously.

If that is all that is wrong with it then it is not an Aprilia.

I think what this forum needs is a help/garage section so that General chat doesn't end up with thousands of broken bike threads.

I almost regret deleting that PM unread now...

OK, OP:

Does it start with the ignition turned off?

Does it exhibit the bad behaviour if you turn the ignition off shortly after starting up, or does it only do it when the engine is hot?

When you bought it in a pub car park for cash with no V5, was there a screwdriver in the ignition barrel?

Why are you all giving him the wrong advice?

It's a 50cc not a 125cc, the sand goes in the petrol tank.
