So, i got my new bike Saturday, a bandit 600.
The guy said it had a new chain and sprocket roughly 1000 miles ago, he said he notice the chain was slack to tighten it before give it to me.
Anyway i was ridding a long, slowed down to let a car pull out, and as i gave it some throttle, i hear this crack and i was ridding i hear a clicking noise. I pull over and see metal shavings all over the chain.
I get home, pull the chain off to find big crack, and two little ones. Pretty lucky it didn't decide to completely snap off

What would cause this? i was thinking over tightened chain or wheel alignment?

A poorly maintained chain. Probably the start of the issues there.

Doubt its less than 1000 miles old, DID chains take a lot of abuse.

Going by the look of the sprocket I'd say the wheel is badly out of alignment.

This.

If you sell a bike stating 'chain changed less than.... miles ago' at least clean it to look new...

It's probably aligned true with that twisted subframe.
