 |
|
Was warming my bike up this morning, it was behaving strangely (stalling when applying some throttle), then the engine note changed and I saw a big sodding hole had appeared in the exhaust.
I'm wondering is it worth repairing? I've been looking at the Holts gun gum thing from Halfords.
If not where's a good place to get a replacement? The exhausts I've seen all seem to be around £300 (new), except a 2003 exhaust on Wemoto which's £85, when a 2004 onwards exhaust is £275 There were some changes on post 2003 bikes so I dunno if it would be ok.
Thanks for any advice. ____________________ Yamaha MT-03 '08 (crashed)

exhaust bandage/bake bean can and gum gum. Gum gum on its own would just shoot out of the hole again.
Its looks welded before, could weld again?
Really time for a new exhaust i'm afraid or a good 2nd one.
Ask wemoto if it will fit the 2003 model. Have a look at another 2004-2005 bike and see what the difference is ____________________ Honda H100S2 Rebuild - https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=253852 |

Thats not a sodding great hole. Just a pin hole.
Gun gum liberally coated round the hole first then small piece of sheet metal bent round held in place with jubilee clip. Jobs a good un. ( Im not called bodger for nothing) Itl hold ok for six months till you can source another exhaust. |

Oh dear...
Gun-Gum, Bean tin, Jubilee clip.
Spend any money saved (from having to buying a new exhaust) on beer. Do not, under any circumstance, put a wee bit away every week for a new system. ____________________ W-ireless A-rtificial L-ifeform L-imited to O-bservation P-eacekeeping and E-fficient R-epair |

Just bought a used exhaust for £55, it's for a 2007 bike but I don't think there were any changes after my bikes year so it should be ok.
Couple of questions before the silencer arrives:
- A guy at work said it might be a good idea to paint the exhaust to prevent further rust (the downpipe's rusty). Can anyone recommend some good/suitable paint?
- Also should I use exhaust paste? Always used to when changing an exhaust on cars, but I'll be ordering a new gasket so do I need it?
Hopefully the exhaust shouldn't put up too much of a fight coming off, the bottom bolts look in good condition but the top looks like it might put up a struggle. ____________________ Yamaha MT-03 '08 (crashed)

If it's a one-piece exhaust, watch you don't snap the exhaust studs ____________________ Space Is Deep |

Ok so fitted the new silencer, and now my bike won't start It started when I first put it on, but I hadn't changed the seal in the silencer (as it looked ok) but was blowing a bit, and also I was a bit scared of snapping the exhaust studs so it was blowing a bit from that end. The bike was running like $hit & blowing white smoke during this.
After leaving the bike overnight, this morning I changed the seal, tightened the exhaust studs further, & then couldn't get the bike to start. The electrics are on, starter motors going but it won't fire up, it's like the kill switch's on (but it isn't). Does anyone have any ideas? Really don't want to have to cycle into work tomorrow ____________________ Yamaha MT-03 '08 (crashed)

Just checked, it`s 11.78v. From what I've read that`s pretty low, but should it start the bike (this is the first time I've had any issues starting the bike)? ____________________ Yamaha MT-03 '08 (crashed)

Picked up a new spark plug today, put it in, & the bike fired up first time (what a relief )! Back to my exhaust, now it's fine at the top end but it's still blowing where the downpipe meets the silencer. I've taken a pic' to show what I think the problem's.
The clamp looks like it's meant to cover the slit in the pipe, apart from it doesn't fully (as shown by the red circle) so I can still feel it blowing a little bit. Obviously it's annoying but I'm also a bit concerned it'll do some damage (to pipes, wiring etc.) Any ideas? I tried just about everything until it got dark ____________________ Yamaha MT-03 '08 (crashed)

So I just used the old exhaust clamp. It's fairly rusty but does the job. I'm not all that pleased with the aesthetics but I'll have to live with it. Now what to do with my old exhaust... whats the scrap value? ____________________ Yamaha MT-03 '08 (crashed)
