when i try to start my bike i need to have the choke fully on and turn the throttle several times untill it catches. after this i then have to ride for around 5-10mins with the choke on about half to warm the bike up otherwise it stalls when coming to a stop

what could be causing this?

Cheers
Andy

Sounds like the OP's bike is running lean or has a vacuum leak. Check the condition of the spark plug. It should be a nice tan colour.

As for Mudcow's bike, the CG may be running a little rich but with the slightly warmer weather, then choke isn't always needed Smile

Put choke on, press starter. Ignore the the throttle.

Tickle the throttle, no need to open it all the way, just 1/8th, if that.

Start it on choke, ride gently for a mile and knock the choke off. Your idle when warm depending on bike should be a bit above 1000rpm. Most bikes I've ridden are between 1200rpm and 14rpm when warm.

Opening your throttle when your chokes on defeats the point of it.
