Firstly, done a quote before anyone hits me with the shereen mallet, they are stupidly cheap for me at £370 TPFT... which is 1/3 of my first choice, ZX9R.
Anyone owned one? Any obvious issues. Looking at 20-25k milers, not too chavved up and just generally clean.
Going to be used for fun at the weekends, maybe an od commuter when weather is decent and to go across Spain on.

Check the big white 20 pin connector block under the left hand faux carbon panel behind the headlight, they can become furred up and cause all sorts of electrical nut aches! Mine would turn it's own headlights off at random, once at 85 on an unlit single carriageway, left a fucking great pinch mark after that one!
2nd can go on bikes that have been abused, if it has you'll probably wanna have a looksee at the headstock bearings, it would seem it's hamfisted wheelies that can do it in the worst.
They can burn a bit of oil, mine recently did 500ml in 1200 miles, including a trackday, the oil light is a level NOT pressure sensor so when that comes on you know you're cutting it fine! ____________________ '84 TS50X, '91 TZR125, '89 CBR400RR, '91 VFR400R NC30, '98 R1

Thanks for the advice, was going to check out the gearbox initially but definitely worth checking the valve clearances are done
Found one, its over 180 miles away so that is getting looked at initially, looks tidy and comes with some carbon goodies and some nice little touches so see what happens with that |

Had a go on this a couple of weeks ago; my friend's 2000 model R1 with race pipe, rearsets and undertray.
Great bike, really easy to go fast on. I can imagine quite easy to lose one's licence on though...
Also - doesn't feel like it's working below about 80mph. Too much for me really but fun for a weekend toy. ____________________ NSR125RR - ZXR750H1 - ZX9R E1 - GSF600S - GSF600SK3 - VFR400-NC30 - SV1000N - ST1100-R - CBR900RR-R - GSF1200SK5 - GSF600SK1 - VFR1200FA - GSXR1000K2 - ZZR1400 D8F

Why don't you get a TLR? Same money and you always bleat about them. |

As much as I love them, I really really do not think I could cope with one in Spain. They appear to be fairly thirsty and 100-110 miles to a tank seems common place. |

Problem is, all the ones I've seen are either dogs or high milers. Looks like the fixed a few bits for the 2000 model too... so ironed out some issues.
I'd rather it didn't make me stain my pants |

I had a 2000 R1 for 3yrs loved it. My favorite bike so far. I would have another in a heartbeat.
Woo, I be interested in your R1. Looks don't bother me too much, as I love rebuilding them and I spent loads on my R1 before nicked. As soon as I get all 3 bikes working ill be selling them to buy a better bike!
In the time I owned my bike, only issue was a burnt out clutch due to low oil. and a issue where it would bog down when pulling away when I got it causing me to stall it a few times.

This regulator issue, is it common then. If so, I'll bust that problem before it happens |
