Push the calliper towards the wheel, it's sitting on a slider.

Does it move back and forth at all? If not pull it off the slider, clean and lube the slider with some copper grease. You've got the same calliper as my Africa Twin, you have to keep on top of the maintenance or the weather kills them.

The caliper 'floats' on a couple of steel pins and corrosion/road crap can cause it to sieze rather than move freely. It'll have to be removed, freed, cleaned up and greased. Use a general lithium type grease rather than copper grease which is intended for use as an anti-sieze compound rather than a lubricant.

In this picture, between the piston and the brake pad you can see a small circular rubber bellows.

Now you have undone the single sliding bolt and pivoted the calliper upwards, the whole thing is sitting on a sliding pin which that rubber bellows is protecting from the weather.

If you pull the calliper away from the wheel it should (if it's not seized) slide straight off the pin which is part of the bracket. The rubber will stay with the calliper leaving the pin on the bracket which you can clean up and lube before popping the calliper back on (check inside the calliper to make sure there are no nasties inside the hole).

From the picture it looks like the end of the bellow has popped out which would mean there is a long way for the calliper to slide back.

Depending on how long the bellow has been disconnected there could be some crud in there stopping it from moving properly.

Other easy option would be to sand down the pad (that's a joke by the way)

Thanks for all the input.

I opened it up again today and noted that front number 13 bolt was too tight, it had squashed number 14 rubber bit (bellows?). I loosened it and that seemed to have solved the problem. For my understanding this should not be so tight.

See image below, red circle is for the squashed rubber bit after I loosened it. Green circle is the number 13 bolt i loosened.

Is that ok ?

No. From memory the torque on that bolt should be around 27N m. The caliper isn't sliding freely on the pins because of corrosion or road crap. Loosening a fitting isn't the answer.

Whip the pin out and clean all the road crap/corrosion off, put a bit of silicone paste on and reinstall.
