 |
|
hello again,
sorry for number of posts today but here it goes
i use my bike to commute to work on daily basis and have two bikes at the moment sv650 and sym 125.
what i need is something that is cheap to run and gives you a good mpg . i travel around 30-40 miles everyday.
my sv works out a lot more expensive as it needs refuling almost every 3-4 days where is my sym every 2 weeks or so
this is not considering the friction and cost of tyre etc
so here is what i think i should do and where i appreciate all recommendations and inputs
1.keep both bikes and insure tax and mot them . the extra bike costs me around 300 a year (sym) to insure and tax ( no mot as it is new).
2.keep one and sell other . use sv for daily communting.
uncomfortable
expenive to run on 700-1000 miles per month
3.keep one and commute to work using train. no way , i hate early london morning rush and also paying £200 per month for nothing
do you guys think it is wise to go with option 1?
if so then i think i should sell my sym and get a more reliable daily commuter which is very cheap to run.
it seems like my sym is made of cheese as it is really a poor quality. i can say this from the cheap nuts, cheap bolt which the head is worn after few time use thus god knows if in few days the wheel is going to suddenly come off or not. despite all this i bought it for 1.6k and selling it now think it is now going to fetch more than £800( almost half price in a year).
the bike has another 2 years of warranty, is it wise to keep it or just sell it and get something which is cheap to run and also good looking such as ninja 250 or yzf 125 honda ?
in the first year of having the sym, the swing arm bushing went, the front disc warped and 2 rev counters changed so far that is the bike was bloody brand new.i also had to change the chain adjuster metal as the nuts broke the thread( part of the thread came off).
also the airbox splitted in half after taking it out for the first time thus had to glued it back ( glue didn't work i had to plastic solder it )
sorry for the very long post
of course i need to keep my sv for trackdays and improve my riding skills
thanks ____________________ SV650 Red

if so then really can't work out why it is so mcu cheaper to run
i thought i will have to buy 125 or 250 for it to be really cheap commuter and daily ride of 30miles whereas it looks like even 700cc can do the same |
I just noticed from your previous posts that you've had the sv650 for only a couple of weeks. It sounds like you are unhappy, in general, or you wouldn't even be asking these questions. You just need to ask yourself what you are unhappy about and what you would change. If the sv isn't comparing well to a very beat up Sym, that's not a good sign...
The NC700 and the BMW are probably outside of your price range, anyway, so the comparison is moot. Are you finding the sv uncomfortable for the commute or is it just the fuel economy? If the former, try test riding a more up-right bike. If the latter, there are many mid-range bikes with better fuel economy, but they probably won't be sports bikes either. ____________________ Current: '14 VFR800X Test passed 31/10/12.

dont get me wrong . i am totally happy with my sv but just can't see it feasible to ride to work . 30 miles per day is going to be expensive on sv in addition to it being uncomfortable
i love it but soon will change it to r6
it is rather a decision to make on whether to keep 2 bikes or 1 etc.
what is classic insurance , i have never heard of it . yes i am 25:)
is it this bike ?

There is no hope for you.
The steel framed Honda CBR600F was the best in it's class at the IOMTT.
Honda have sold more than enough to ensure there are a vast number of spares available for the foreseeable future.
Anyone who has owned one will tell you they are cheap to run, easy to maintain and very rarely have problems with them, if any at all.
I know i never had any problems with my 1995 CBR600f.
Carbs are not a problem, if you dont fuck about with them.
You just dont understand classic insurance...
