Hi Everyone,

I've recently had my bike written off and I'm now replacing the headlight. I got one from eBay which I thought was exactly the same.

Looking at the one I have brought it is slightly different to the original, the ones on my original headlight are what I would call the more standard headlight bulb with 3 connectors, the new one has bulbs with two connectors.

I will post pictures further below of the difference in looks between the two, when connected up to the original wiring loom the bulbs don't light up when the headlights are turned on however, pressing the flash button does light them up, but the high beams button still leaves the, turned off!

Does anyone know how I can easily sort this little issue out?

Thanks
Tom

You do have the wrong one, do the new headlights fit in the nose cone ok ?, if so do the bulbs, have 3 pins for the fitment, not where it plugs to the loom, where it headlight sits in it holder, hope this makes sense ! If it fits the cone, then switch the bulbs over.
There maybe a break in a wire, I have the same problem, I've found mine is in the switchgear wires just before it plugs into the loom, the same probs, no headlight but pass light

Yes the headlight fits the nosecone perfectly, the only problem is the bulbs from the old headlight (3 pin) are different to the ones in the new headlight (2 pin) and have a different sized hole in the back of the headlight for the bulbs.

I dont think its a wiring issue, im going to test it back with the old headlight again in a little while but hopefully theyy should still be fine.

What I was hoping was that someone could tell me whether there is an adapter plug of some sort of a mod of that part of the wiring to cater for the new 2 pin plugs?

Ok its definately not a wiring issue, just checked the old headlight.

After reading something on the internet it mentions that the 3 pin plugs are generally headlights that have the high beam and dip bult into the one bulb, im assuming that what I have with the 2 pin bulbs in the new headlight is actually an older model where one bulb is full beam and the other is dipped?

Mattsprattuk: Thats the problem the old bulbs dont fit in the hole left in the new headlight, they look completly different! Unless you know that you can buy the 3pin bulbs that fit into the hole where the 2 pin bulbs currently are?

it wouldnt be from an older model. it's probably an import. My 1997 one had one headlight for low and one for high beam.

There's a couple of types of headlight, and a couple of types of wiring loom. The loom's don't fit different bikes though, just to make it easier. You can't just plug a different type of headlight loom in unfortunately.

Get new bulbs that fit, as said before, but this means your light pattern will be a bit messed up. Don't worry about it until MOT time, and go for a daytime MOT.
