I've got a 33bhp ecu in my sv, now I can't be dealing with me getting stopped and them requesting to take my bike somewhere for it to be tested/dyno'd and I'm not paying for that scam of a FI cert. I don't have the time for it.

Is there any other way they can check or do they have to say you have 7 days at your convenience for the police to come to your house and test your bike? Just to confirm, I do actually have a 33bhp ecu and it is in my bike.

really really

I had a ECU in my sv650, cops inspected my bike, took the model number for the ECU, contacted Suzuki to confirm.

You will get fucked so hard in the ass if you get caught.

lemme see pick of your sv..,.

i found a decent thread on your topic on sv650.org
https://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=150503

OP post

"not at all in the mood to look if this has been mentioned, as my bike has been seized today for failure to prove it is restricted apparently there should be some sort of visual plate that the police can just check if they pull you? As far as i have read and been aware there isnt even an offical certificate for this?

And if this is the case, with the ecu bikes what stops yo getting this plate and changing the ecu over?? so as you can imagine im quite annoyed about the whole thing and would like to know the if anyone has the letter of the law that states a visual plate must be fixed to some part of the bike or whatever

33bhps beware?

maybe there is something and i've missed the whole thing? let me know...

Yeah, I have not crashed... yet

Still got a year left so selling my CBF500 and going back to school on a 125cc, just to ride out the last year without getting speed trapped/crashed etc, and finding out the CBF500 makes 57 BHP out of the factory (not like mine does anyway Wink )

If they ever ask, it's in the carburettors.

Ride 20+ yrs old bikes, I don't know how about in the UK, but here cops have no chance to find out how a 20+ yrs old bike should look like or if it's even restricted. I had hand made open exhaust on GPz550 ''restricted'' to 25kw (exceeding 185kph), no one ever told me a thing Twisted Evil

Just found something one thread...

"The bike can be seized under s165 Road Traffic Act 1988 as the officer has reasonable grounds to believe you don't have a suitable license to ride the bike (i.e driving other than in accordance with a license.)"

On modern kawasakis, it's a screw adjuster on the throttle bodies. There is no certificate. A crash could easily adjust it, I'm sure! Laughing

You can defer the test.

You can defer a roadside test, see RTA 1988 67 (6).

However, if you do so, you better believe they'll use that refusal to form their "reasonable belief" that you're up to something, and seize your bike on the spot. Unlawfully, I'd argue, but I'd be arguing it in court.

We don't have the Yankish obsession with "clean hands" evidence, so the most they'll get is Words of Advice, and you'll still suffer all the consequences (but see Pryor vs Chief Constable of GMP).

See thread above. If a constable forms a reasonable belief that you're riding otherwise than in accordance with your license, he can seize your bike and have it dynod. Or actually if he forms an unreasonable belief too, he's got a bigger gang than you, is the realpolitik.

And then keep it for months.

And set it on fire at the dyno shop. Shocked.

I'd suggest that you can avoid wasting police time by sourcing a convincing looking PaddyCerttm and carrying it along with your license and certificate of insurance (which you always carry anyway, yes? Wink ). Probably better if it has some oily fingerprints on it like it's been done in a garage rather than fresh off your inkjet.

If you're in possession of such a 'certificate' then it would tilt the odds towards a seizure being 'unreasonable' and you ultimately being able to claim your costs back (yay for Pryor).

Of course, if you mean that you're actually riding a full power bike on a 25kW license then death's too good for you, because you only become magically safe to do that precisely 2 years after passing your test on a 125. Tut Tut

I had a fault accident and nobody checked. Though no worries if they had as I was genuinely restricted at the time.

I remember reading somewhere that the certificates have no real basis in law, the police have to prove it isn't restricted, you don't have to prove that it is, they just have to prove it isn't.

I find the whole idea of restrictions stupid, most people don't even bother to restrict their bikes.

Plus because I have the old style A2 I could just ride around on a 125 for 2 years and then jump on a Hayabusa.

I know a couple of guys who told me to absolutely outright ignore my 33bhp restriction and ride whatever the hell I liked. One of these guys was even in a crash on his unrestricted bike and he got away with it. I personally think it's daft and not worth the risk at all. Some will be lucky, other will not. It's obviously far, far worse to be on the unlucky end of the scale.

What do you mean with 33hp certificate? Like you just get a piece of paper and you're alright?

Here you've got to change it in the technical certificate of the vehicle, which is not that easy but it is doable, it's easier and cheeper to get the licence. But once it's done, it's pernament, till some one changes it again.

There is one stupid thing EU gave us, if you restrict a motorcycle, then the original power has got to be 2x higher number = restriction 25kw=50kw original, 35kw=70kw original. AND now if you've got a motorcycle with original power of 70kw and you restricted it to 25 or 34 and lower, then it is illegal for you ti ride it on 35/25kw licence because, for example, 34 times 2 is not 70 Confused

Right now, there're tons of bikes with 25kw in the technical certificate for sale, lot's of them have more then 70kw or don't have 50kw exact (or whatever number you get if you multiply the number in your technical certificate 2 times, if it's restricted of course). Thumbs Up

If you have, I'd say, 20+yrs old bike, then there's absolutely no interest of police to do a thing, they just don't care, because their records don't hold this kind of information.
