A bit of heads up / is there anything I can do thread.
I recently took out a multi-bike policy through Swintons, I have three years NCD, 2 from the last insurer and one from the insurer before.
The reason that I did not use the first no claims when re-insuring 2 years ago was that the insurer would not accept NCD from when I was riding on a CBT.
After receiving a letter from Swintons asking for proof of no claims I emailed them two documents, both dated, one proof on 1 years no claims with my first insurer and one proof of 2 years with my second.
They have now said that they cannot accept NCB from two companies and charged me another £60 inc £25 admin fee for the privilege.
Is this right that they can ignore that evidence of NCD in front of them ? |

Sorry, I don't think that you're going to win this one.
No Claims is a scheme/scam that's entirely at the whim of individual insurers.
AFAIK there's no central records or universally agreed terms. It means exactly what your current insurer says that it means, and it's usually "we'll recognise exactly the number of years that your last policy said, and no more".
Since Whitehall has such a rager on for regulation I'm sure it will get formalised eventually, but at the moment it's down to the contract that you "agreed" with your current insurer. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

simply because the insurers system only goes to 9
thankfully i was able to go back to my old insurer to get a statement proving 15 yrs... but now i have to be carefull |
My understanding is the discount stops at five years NCB, so any NCB greater than that is worthless. |
They generally ask about losses, claims and convictions in the last 5 years, but maximum NCB/NCD[*] entirely depends on the insurer.
Which is why you can get nobbed over royally if you switch from one lot who will take your eleventy years then just say (truthfully) that you have "5+ years" to another lot who would have given you a larger discount on the full number of years.

Are you? Why?
The only way I'm aware of to compel a reply would be with a Subject Access Request, for which they can charge you £10.
I'm not generally pro-regulation, but since insurance is mandatory anyway, this is one area where it's well overdue.
[*] Is it a "Bonus" or a "Discount"? They can't even pick a uniform way of marketing it. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.
