Maybe it's better to replace them now. Being a Gentleman of advancing years, memory loss could be an issue. It might be 50,000 miles before that memory pops to the forefront again
I was going to say that 26,000 miles seemed great and £50 for that mileage made it seem like, if it's a maybe, just get it done. But had a quick look, and they seem to start at £150 |

To save you having to clean them I recommend replacing them.....something shiny and expensive. DID Gold.
To be honest...All sounds ok with your running gear. Treat it to a brushing with Parrafin and wipe n lube. ____________________ Diabolical homemade music Bandcamp and Soundcloud

I get yer.
I've not had to adjust the chain on the duc since I've had it.
Surely it would've stretched a little...maybe if I try 4th gear and see if that stretches it. ____________________ Diabolical homemade music Bandcamp and Soundcloud

Certainly no expert, but if it's starting to prey on you, could you be subconsciously noting small changes in the way the bike is working?
That's the way I would be thinking about it, particularly if the chain has been on the bike for so long.
I'd change them. Not a tough job and might have a good effect. ____________________ The Old Apprentice |

Miss Ed had an advisory at her last MoT about the chain and sprockets on her R6 recently. When we looked on Friday there was still some substantial life left in the final drive after 16,500 miles, but as the new stuff had been ordered then Miss Ed felt that it would be better to do the work replacing them anyway.
But the saga was made worse because once the gearbox sprocket cover was removed, the absence of the sprocket retaining nut became apparent
Luckily my local bike shop had the tab washer and retaining nut in stock so the work was successful.
If the OEM chain and sprockets have lasted 26,000 miles then I would replace now and have a good time riding the bike over the summer without that nagging thought that it might let you down somewhere in the middle of nowhere ____________________ Just talk bikes. What else is there?

I'm still trying to understand how the chain on a 600cc sports bike can last 26k miles. Even if it was ridden conservatively how is that possible?! Even with a Scottoiler (which Silky's doesn't have anyway)? ____________________ "There's the horizon! Ride hard, ride fast and cut down all who stand in your way!" |

If you are worried about it now, you will only worry more the longer you leave it. Order up a chain and sprox, replace the originals and enjoy the bike properly again ____________________ Theory test - 19/8/09, CBT - 11/10/09, MOD 1 - 16/8/10, MOD 2 - 27/10/10
