I was watching a news programme tonight which I found quite frightening.

It seems that the great unwashed masses have taken to speed cameras according to the programme. They rolled out people who said they were good for villages, slowed people down Rolling Eyes reduced the risk of dangerous speeders and rolled out a few more supporters of the yellow box.

I'm getting worried. Is it just the media manipulating stories or are people becoming so de sensitized to cameras that they are accepting them. Speeders getting to be the same scum as drink drivers in the view of the majority?

The shit that was spouting forth was right out of the mothers against speeders manual.

The worrying thing, is taken in a certain context that any good laywer could put forward, it all sounds so logical.

The only good thing was the reporter said that calling them safety cameras was wrong, they are speed cameras as that's all they take, your speed. They don't note if you are drunk, stoned, reading your Ipad or getting a BJ off your missus. (they didn't say the last one on telly, that was mine!)

I hate this nanny state. Do this, do that. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Where did you see this? By which I mean, was it propaganda by champaign socialist London pedalistas, or was it marketeers trolling for eyeballs for their sponsors?

Ask 100 people and show the responses of 10, and you can create any impression that you like.

It's TV news, i.e. state propaganda. Therefore cannot be trusted.

If you remember the 1980s the TV news edited the footage to show the miners attacking police, when it was the police attacking the miners.

Labour and the BBC manipulated it so everybody was pro ID cards etc.

All these people saying it's great for their village having a camera to slow down the speeders then get in their merc and do 50 through the 30 limit of the next village and cruise down the outside lane of the motorway.

Nimbys. the lot of em.

I'd be quite happy to have a speed camera or two in the village. People go through at a rediculous speed.

It's the ones deliberately placed on good overtaking places on NSL roads or at the exact point of entry into a slower speed limit I object to.

If they make people stick to a 30 limit in a genuinely built-up area, I can't object. If they are positioned to generate the maximum amount of revenue, I'm less impressed.

Last time i was in blackpool (2-3 years ago) the seafront is absolutley plastered with them. no sooner were you out of the detection zone of one, you were straight into another.

that really took the p1ss.

One day they'll run out speed limits to reduce, and have a speed camera every 50 meters, and we'll still have accidents because we'll just have a load of slow-yet-oblivious drivers. Just because you're driving within the speed limit, does not make you safe.

I did 155mph over the mountain section of the TT course two weeks ago and I didn't spontaneously explode Surprised Not sure of any kitteh death toll though Sad

You didn't break the speed limit, so therefore safe.

The amount of old people driving that I've had to avoid is mental, especially because they haven't been clue.

I managed 165 to nerrrr. Razz

I do agree. All the yellow boxes create is a load of drivers glaring at their speedos rather than looking at the road. I'm sure even the most anti speed member of BRAKE would struggle to see this as a good thing outside a school at kicking out time.

Also it's not speed that kills. It's inappropriate speed.

Actually I am perfectly fine with speed cameras in the villages, in fact I think temporary speed cameras are even better.

The sign for the speed camera is more than enough to stop the erratic speeding around.

40 limit sign in our village does not seems to have any effect whatsoever, especially in the evenings chavs are doing 100 here.

On monthly basis somebody is missing the roundabout.

So yes I like speed cameras, the more of them in villages the better.
