okay so i need to buy gear but not really sure what i should be going for. i don't have a massive budget for it aswell, £200 max, obviously the cheaper the better (without sacrificing quality). i've already got a helmet, so would be needing:
-jacket, preferably plain black
-trousers, preferably plain black
-gloves, red or black
-boots, black
i dont know what brands or features to be looking at, or websites that have good prices, so any recommendations on which ones to buy and where would be a big help |

Decent makes via ebay would be my choice with the budget you have.
Bikers are ace, buy £1000 worth of kit, use it 2 weekends and then sell bike followed by hardly used kit because the colour doesn't match new bike.
You'll get all you need for £200 if you are sensible. ____________________ Nobby the Bastard: How yo tell the difference between the actual japanese and her just screaming because she's had live fish stuck up her arse? That's not a lot of money for all that kit. I'd expect a Jacket to cost about £150-200 on it's own tbh.
Gloves you can get for between £25 and £50 but they won't be particularly good ones.
I'd suggest looking at the Triumph outlet store in the first instance as they have some good deals on factory seconds that should be fine for what you want. However I still don't know if they will be cheap enough for you.

So your criteria is price and colour?
My first gear was a pair of sturdy hiking boots, jeans and a (non-biker) leather jacket. I got my second set through charity shops and e-bay. (All of it was complete rubbish, of course.)
Once you've ridden for a while, you'll have a better idea of what you want. Don't waste your £200 on "any old gear as long as it's black and red." ____________________ Current: '14 VFR800X Test passed 31/10/12.

Cheap + quality aren't two things that go together (not often anyway). I'd say the advice to get second hand stuff is the best way to go...
EDIT: Mr Yaigi bought Spada jacket and trousers for around £200 about 6 or 7 years ago and they're still going strong. He's never crashed in em mind... ____________________ What would you do in life, if you knew you could not fail?

Tomorrow I am going to pick up a month old set of gear from someone who has given up riding.
Arai viper GT = £300
Alpinestars smx = £200
Berik one piece = £500
Berik gloves = £90
All worn for maybe 10 hours, all in exactly my size, paying 350. You can get bargains. I got a set of leathers off mistergixer on here for well cheap, and most of my gear is ebay. I'd never pay for brand new gear, except for helmets, and I doubt I'd spend more than £150 on it.
I disagree intently with esullivan on charity shops and ebay being rubbish (unless he meant he actually bought rubbish gear at which point that's his own mistake) ____________________ Previous: GSF600, FZR600 x2, ZXR750, XT600 Tenere, CB125, CZ125, ETZ 250, ER5, CCM R30, DRZ400, RF600x4, RF900x2, GS500, VTR1000F, 640 SMC, CB250 NIGHTHAWK, GT550x3, GPX750 TE610, CB500, X11x2, SV650, ZING 125, TL1000R,CB250 Superdream, CBR1100XX |

I'm in nw London too, so not far. My wife had very good luck at Infinity Motorcycle's clearance warehouse in Camberley, which is probably about an hour away from you. They sell last year's stuff, overstocks and damaged goods. She got a decent pair of textile trousers for £10 because it needed a bit of sewing on the seat. It's hit or miss. If you are a common size, like me, you'll have less luck, but if you are significantly wider/narrower/taller/shorter than average (my wife ticked the narrower and shorter boxes) there some bargains on new stuff.

As said your not really going to get good new gear for that budget
I would look on eBay and Gumtree, always see gear on Gumtree, get some good quality used stuff ____________________ KLX 300r |

Hold up, I just scoured ebay for the jacket I got nearly 2 years ago, it's at the grand price still of £55 which it's half it's RRP, I've recommended it to a few on here who have gone on to get it.. seller owes me some money me thinks
Nah, but it's really decent for the price, the one I have is pictured in the top right labelled 'Black and grey'

They also do matching trousers I see but I haven't got them so can't comment, very impressed with the jacket
Some gloves for sub £50 or whatever and your sorted! ____________________ 07' Honda Hornet now full powaah! My guide on performing an oil change! |
