okay so i need to buy gear but not really sure what i should be going for. i don't have a massive budget for it aswell, £200 max, obviously the cheaper the better (without sacrificing quality). i've already got a helmet, so would be needing:

-jacket, preferably plain black
-trousers, preferably plain black
-gloves, red or black
-boots, black

i dont know what brands or features to be looking at, or websites that have good prices, so any recommendations on which ones to buy and where would be a big help

Honestly mate, eBay.

Don't be afraid of buying 2nd hand. I got sidi boots, richa jacket, trousers and gloves (all different sellers) and paid no more than £200.

All in great nick and the jacket even came with removable thermal and waterproof layers.

If you go into a decent stockist of various brands and make notes of what fits you properly, you can't go wrong.

Decent makes via ebay would be my choice with the budget you have.

Bikers are ace, buy £1000 worth of kit, use it 2 weekends and then sell bike followed by hardly used kit because the colour doesn't match new bike.

You'll get all you need for £200 if you are sensible.

That's not a lot of money for all that kit. I'd expect a Jacket to cost about £150-200 on it's own tbh.

Gloves you can get for between £25 and £50 but they won't be particularly good ones.

I'd suggest looking at the Triumph outlet store in the first instance as they have some good deals on factory seconds that should be fine for what you want. However I still don't know if they will be cheap enough for you.

So your criteria is price and colour? Shocked

My first gear was a pair of sturdy hiking boots, jeans and a (non-biker) leather jacket. I got my second set through charity shops and e-bay. (All of it was complete rubbish, of course.)

Once you've ridden for a while, you'll have a better idea of what you want. Don't waste your £200 on "any old gear as long as it's black and red."

yeah ive looked on the triumph site, but they dont have many sizes available which makes things a little difficult.

my main priority are the gloves, jacket and boots. not sure what i should be looking for though/ what brands??

Spada gloves £20. Perfectly good ones. Thumbs Up

Spadas, Akito, and Tuccano are all decent brands with good ranges, with good jackets mostly sub £100. Akito Miami boots for £30-£40. Just leaves you with a helmet. Have a look at V-Cans.

Kevlar Jean s can be found for £40 on eBay.

EBay is awesome, also check out www.ghostbikes.co.uk

Cheap + quality aren't two things that go together (not often anyway). I'd say the advice to get second hand stuff is the best way to go...

EDIT: Mr Yaigi bought Spada jacket and trousers for around £200 about 6 or 7 years ago and they're still going strong. He's never crashed in em mind...

Yeah, ebay. I got a 2 piece Wolf set of leathers (Uk made, £500+ new) that had been worn about once for £114 delivered.

A few members on here have bought a black jacket and been quite complimentary about what is a budget range https://www.ghostbikes.com/categorylist/ghostbikes.com-brands-black-jackets/

As said above though, eBay is your friend, the sizing is a gamble, but if it doesn't fit, take a hit on postage and re sell it.

I don't remember the exact price but my FT leathers were less than 80 quid delivered (seperate, eBay).

Boots - army surplus boots, far more practical than any bike boot I've tried unless you only use the bike for jollies. Mine were free but they're about 40-50 quid on eBay.

Gloves, I had some 20 quid gloves and upgraded to 50 because gloves genuinely do matter IMO. Apart from on the warmest of summer days my hands would go to sleep if I wore unlined leather gloves.

So yeah, that's less than 200 quid for quality kit.

Tomorrow I am going to pick up a month old set of gear from someone who has given up riding.

Arai viper GT = £300
Alpinestars smx = £200
Berik one piece = £500
Berik gloves = £90

All worn for maybe 10 hours, all in exactly my size, paying 350. You can get bargains. I got a set of leathers off mistergixer on here for well cheap, and most of my gear is ebay. I'd never pay for brand new gear, except for helmets, and I doubt I'd spend more than £150 on it.

I disagree intently with esullivan on charity shops and ebay being rubbish (unless he meant he actually bought rubbish gear at which point that's his own mistake)

Just about every used motorcycle trouser or jacket I purchased was being sold for a very good reason, and that very good reason only became apparent after an hour of riding in the rain.

That said, my current "dry/warm/summer" outfit of leather trousers and jacket (which I wear exactly six days a year) I bought from ebay/charity shops and they're fine. So, let me qualify what I said earlier a bit: I don't have the skills to pick out good used gear, and I'm unlucky.

Sounds like you are just superior than I am. I bow to your superior-ness.

I probably wouldn't buy used textiles, fair point. Harder to evaluate damage.

Firstly, make sure it fits properly, whether it be textile or leathers. I have both and only wear the textiles as my leathers are too warm. But both fit well.

Also, I wouldn't buy anything without armour in the shoulders, elbows, knees, and back. That's just my preference, I also only buy gloves with hard knuckles rather than just padding.

Loads of decent kit about for cheap that has hardly been worn on eBay mate if you do some research first.

If youre local to preston then definately worth a trip to ghost bikes.

i went there and got:

decent pair of duchinni gloves - £15 out the bargain bucket
a Box matt black helmet - £40
oxford bone dry boots - £20 (factory seconds - still aint figured out whats wrong with them 12 months on!)
and they have padded black textile pants from £40+ (going getting some myself soon)

But: they dont sell clearance gloves and factory seconds boots on their site but do have them in the shop

I'm in nw London too, so not far. My wife had very good luck at Infinity Motorcycle's clearance warehouse in Camberley, which is probably about an hour away from you. They sell last year's stuff, overstocks and damaged goods. She got a decent pair of textile trousers for £10 because it needed a bit of sewing on the seat. It's hit or miss. If you are a common size, like me, you'll have less luck, but if you are significantly wider/narrower/taller/shorter than average (my wife ticked the narrower and shorter boxes) there some bargains on new stuff.

Hold up, I just scoured ebay for the jacket I got nearly 2 years ago, it's at the grand price still of £55 which it's half it's RRP, I've recommended it to a few on here who have gone on to get it.. seller owes me some money me thinks Laughing

Nah, but it's really decent for the price, the one I have is pictured in the top right labelled 'Black and grey'

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mens-Armoured-Waterproof-Cordura-Textile-Motorcycle-Motorbike-Jacket-Collection-/281041042204?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Clothing&var=&hash=item416f59fb1c

They also do matching trousers I see but I haven't got them so can't comment, very impressed with the jacket Thumbs Up

Some gloves for sub £50 or whatever and your sorted!
