I bought a set of RAM from them a few days ago, a matching set to increase what's already in my rig. What I got was broken RAM in a plastic shell-pack that looked like it had been down the back of a filing cabinet for a couple of years. The date of manufacture on the sticks was six months older than the stuff I bought two years ago.

So, I rang them up to sort it out. Their number is a 10p per minute premium-rate. Cost me £1.70 to organize the RMA pickup (three pass-ons and one cut-off), they said they would not refund that but my postage would be refunded (the cost of postage from them to me on the original purchase).

I've just checked my account, they have refunded only the cost of the RAM.

So that's £3.10 for postage and £1.70 for the premium-rate number they have ripped me off for selling me broken RAM.

I reckon the RAM had been returned to them a long time ago and they'd dumped it somewhere. Somebody then found it and put it back into stock. The packet was thick with dust and badly scratched with a corner missing.

Cheap chiselling scumbags. And no, I shan't be calling them again on their premium-rate ripoff phone line to dispute the theft of my postage. But nor shall I ever order from them again (and I've had a lot over the years).

I've dealt with them a couple of times. They generally have much less choice and stock though. But slightly cheaper.

You are not the first to be on the wrong end of their "customer service".

I had a similar experience back when it was run by Spie.

Never again. Although at least the new owners are less obviously racist.

Why would you order anything from OC.UK there are so many negative threads about them.

Never had to return anything to them before. It's the penny-pinching cheap scumbag mentality that pisses me off, not the money.

For future reference, any 0870 0845 etc numbers will have a normal number behind them. Look it up here and avoid the penny pinching numbers:

Did you try posting on their forums? I had a box turn up a bit battered, posted on the forum about it and they had the courier back out to collect it the same day, as well as dispatching a replacement the same day.

As to the postage money, chances are the system doesn't refund postage automatically, so someone was going to do it manually and forgot. Human error, it happens. I'm sure if you drop them an email, they will correct it.

You might find this site useful: https://www.saynoto0870.com/ - if you put in the OCUK number or name, it will pump out a regular land line number for them.

I brought most of my bits from them for my last pc build. it died after 3 months and replaced everything bar ram and mobo, sent of mobo and came back fine. On their site it says can charge an admin fee of £10 to cover charges. got it back and wasn't charged. brought new ram and it was that, they wouldnt send me some to test, so sent back faulty and got new. now I have 12gig of ram in my pc, took a bit of faffy and had to pay the postage but least never got charged the admin fee!

Bollocks, they've just replied to my email and said they've sorted it and sorry for the inconvenience. I feel a wee bit cnuty now.

But the premium-rate number is an absolute scam, so fuck them. I don't notice Tesco charging me an entrance-fee.

I use Overclockers, but only because it's round the corner from my work, otherwise they can F-Off, their returns policy sucks balls.

I had a set of bad RAM from them about 12 months ago, they wouldn't replace it then and there, I had to leave it with them to test, despite me having tested it twice and not wanting a refund, just new RAM.

They said they would inform me when they had tested it BY EMAIL..

Interesting, how am I supposed to use my email when you have the frigging RAM for my PC......?!

Face to face they are not much better, they will happily sell you components that do not match, without questioning it. Granted you could be doing different things with the parts, but you would at least ask, surely?

DISCLAIMER - I didn't actually buy bits that didn't match, I was conducting a social experiment at the time.... Embarassed Rolling Eyes Laughing

Whilst I've never actually had an issue with their service, they lost my custom last time round due to the shocking pricing of their GPUs and HDDs. They were close to £100 more than ebuyer brand for brand on Titans at one point, when quized they blamed exchange rates and yet the competition never followed. It was precisely the same story when WD had the factory flood, Overclocker's put their prices through the roof and sat on their stock pretty much the following morning. Whilst I can appreciate that it's good business sense, it's utterly disrespectful to their customers.

OCUK are very popular so yes there are plenty of negative experiences, but it wouldn't put me off buying from them. I don't do knee jerk reactions from a few negative experiences.

The reason I won't buy from them is because they are a rip off. Laughing

When I did actually go in to pick something up for my dad ages ago, they were very helpful actually and the place was packed.

And how is that going to work?

He's already got a refund.
So all they will do is reject the chargeback on that basis.

Ah righto, I'm stupid.
Lets say i own a shop and you buy something from me for £100, When you get home you find out its a turd and demand a refund. I refund you £1 but you paid with a CC so you request a charge back, i can reject it? because i already issued a refund albeit not in full.

Not stupid at all Wink

Yep and claim the £99 is a restocking fee.....

Not legal. But as far as the card providers go the retailer has done what they said Shocked

While it is not legal for a retailer to not refund postage under DSR. It has nothing to do with Visa/MasterCard regulations.
Also these regulations do not cover the quality of the turd.... Only that it is described as a turd Laughing
