Just ridden through a huge pot-hole at 40mph as I didn't spot that the drain cover was slightly sunk with a huge pot hole just the other side of it.

didn't think I had time to swerve so stood up and eased off, bike thumped through it with the usual noise you'd expect from being bumped about.

handling doesn't seem to have been affected, don't think there's any play in the forks but was wondering what else I should check.

bike is a zzr600 if that's relevant.

Fillings and testicals are where they are supposed to be. lol.
Check wheels are true and no dents on the rims, Also check tyre pressures now and again in the morning.

Same thing happened to me at 55mph, the whole bike made a massive crunch and painful shockwaves went straight up both arms.

I think the main thing is what the others have said about checking the rim (I was lucky), also make sure your tyre is not loosing any air like previously stated.

+1 for testicals Thumbs Up Very Happy Thumbs Up

Although, you'd probably notice pretty instantaneously if you had done any damage to those. I have ended up with my eyes watering on one or two occasions myself before now. Crying or Very sad

Check your steering head bearings for play and check that the bearing cups are not cracked, as already posted check wheels for damage and strange as it may seem check your rear sprocket mounting bolts for tightness or breakage.

Similar thing happened to me the other day on the Bandit, had been running with a little bit of misting on one fork leg but after the pothole that seal was leaking a good'un and is now back in the shed waiting for new seals. Just one more thing to check maybe...

I hit a large pot-hole and a slightly raised drain cover in the space of half a metre this year.
I was doing ??? MPH and I was braking hard due to the rabbit doing a silly dance in the middle of the road.

The result was burst fork seals Shocked , so they might be worth checking.

I find putting down some power just before hitting a pot hole is a bit better? as it raises the front "over" the hole and the back will follow.

Not sure if this logic is correct though.

Until your back tyre goes over it fully loaded with the weight taken off the front.

I've always thought about doing this for those spike strips the police use. Obviously they don't use them on bikes but I still wonder if you could do it.
