Bike Safe are running a promotion at the moment and only charging £25. Booked mine for the first week in July, looking forward to it, I've heard its all good and fun.

It's not a bad thing to do, I got As and Bs for my assessed ride at the end of it. They teach a bit more about progression and forward planning than standard test training.

I did mine when I was 20, and got it free as they were doing free Bike Safe days for under 21's

Cheers Doovy, good to hear someone elses impresssion, I figure never to old to learn and if I pick up just one useful bit of information to improve my riding and have some fun on the day its £25 well spent.

Had a look at the Hampshire Bike safe site, extract below-

Would definitely do it for £25, but £50 is a bit too much.

theyre £30 vs £25 in my area, so the cost isn't a decider

also do they both give an equal-ish insurance discount?

Have asked this a few times but do they check plates and exhausts to make sure they are legal?

Yep you did.

Some forums say that they didn't check theirs, others are saying they did. Did they check yours then?

Bikesafe isn't training, it's just intends to impart some good habits and provide some advice.

It's worth doing, as it's cheap and (at least in London), the coppers doing it are half socialised. I did mine on a sunny winter's morning and ended up bombing around the surrey countryside on my todd with a pair of police outriders, which was nice!

I did it last weekend with Thames Valley Police. They checked my documents (licence, insurance and MoT) and gave the bike a cursory once over, mostly bothered with lights and tyres. They are bikers themselves and are not bothered about dark visors or small plates (one admitted to having a small plate himself).

I have to say I found it good reinforcement of what I do, with some ideas for improvement. My assessor rated me As and Bs and said that whilst advanced training (IAM/RoSPA etc) will always be beneficial I didn't need it.

It was a good day though. The presenters were pragmatic blokes and up for a laugh. Also, my assessor was on an unmarked VFR1200 camera bike, which I now know to look out for.

I booked one for July 14th, £25 is a good price and it gives me a reason to use my bike for something other than commuting for a change.
