Was this dangerous?

Ok guys this happened to me last week and I thought nothing of it, but I can't help but make a post regarding it.

I'm on my way home from work, about 10.20pm. Sat at the traffic lights, probably two cars at most behind me. There are two lanes on my side of the road; left for straight ahead and left, and obviously right hand lane for turning right.

The traffic light glows orange, I check right mirror, and then left. I don't really see anything, except some light but I hear something coming, only to get a guy on a moped whizz past me (this is on my left, kerb side) and remain on the left as I begin to move off on green. He's looking back in his mirrors a lot, but by the time I have got moving I have already matched his speed and just had to over take.

Am I correct in finding this guys maneuver dangerous? An over take should be done on the right, but granted I wasn't moving at the time until he just passed me. I just felt as though this guy showed no regard for what he was doing.
