PostPosted: 12:08 - 27 Jun 2013    Post subject: Clutch adjustment (urgent) Reply with quote

Levers turned up today so swapped them over, when doing the clutch lever I followed the manual and adjusted the clutch at the lever end to get maximum free play to help me slot it in the lever. I didn't take note of the position of the locknut and adjuster beforehand.

All fitted so go to start her up and nothing at all, check killswitch etc etc, stick it in first and hold in clutch but she still won't roll freely, leading me to believe the clutch isn't fully disengaging? And to start my bike the clutch lever has to be held in. So this is what I'm assuming is the issue

Any ideas on where the lock nut and adjuster should roughly positioned in relation to the cable

Cheers

I've loosened the adjuster as much as I can get it but still won't move freely in gear with clutch held in.

Wind the handlebar one in all the way.

On the clutch end, adjust it out until you feel resistance.

Wind it back in 1/4 turn.

Lock it up and adjust freeplay at lever end.

A cold bike will not roll that easily in gear with the clutch in, thanks to viscous drag across the wet clutch even when it is open (certainly it will not roll as easily as if it were in neutral).

Also, whether the clutch is properly adjusted or not, this should not affect the clutch switch for starting as this is usually at the lever, so a fully-pulled lever will activate it and should allow the starter to turn.

Does your new lever actually actuate the clutch switch?

The clutch switch is covered in gaffa tape (I knew it was like this but figured if it wasnt broken why fix it) I'm gonna strip the tape and go from there.

To bypass it? Cheers all, I'm just going to follow a simple guide on it on the sv forum. It doesn't help having fingers the size of King Kong when trying to do this

So you are forced to pull clutch in for in gear starts.

Mine doesn't start in gear, Pazzos don't press the switch so I should really bridge mine together Laughing

But when is that ever really an issue unless its on a side stand (which has its own cut of switch circuit anyway).

You would literally have to hold down the stater button with no brakes on and not react at all to do any harm.

One or the other, fair enough, but both is just overkill.

Well I have seemed to have fixed the issue, all is well at the moment. It was indeed the switch. The issue being in settings 1 - 3 the tab on the lever does not connect with the switch. Which isn't really a problem as those settings don't suit me, (5 is best).

After reading I thought it was because id copped out and bought cheapys, hower there are various accounts of this happening with pazzos and ASV levers too!

But DON'T do this on fuel injected Suzukis. It invokes the neutral fuelling map making the bike run lean and gives you a lower rev-limit.
