Hi all, my father inlaw has a 1984 GSX750ES that he has had in his posesion for a few years now its done 38,000 miles and he originally brought it to rebuild but as a part time project but now he has his dream bike a Bussa he said I can have the GSX750ES.

Parts needed
Front & Rear Tyres
Chain & Sprocket
Front Gearbox ?
Front & Rear Brake Piston Caliper Seals
4 x Exhaust Gasket
Left & Right Fork Leg Chrome Sliders
Engine Inlet Rubber (between cylinder head & carbs)

now I am looking for ideas on a project, I don't really like the dated looks of the GSX750ES but I like GSXR's and also street fighters, I only have a CB license so this would be a long ongoing project over the next 12-24 months.

P.S as anyone got any links to a GSX750ES project build as I cant seem to find much on them at all ?

lol, cant post pics, the engine and other bits are in the shed at one house, the frame in the garden in another house and the fairings in a house.

By the sounds of it he is doing you no favour by passing this 'project' on to you. Its basically the bits taken apart and stored in two places, right? Sod that for first go at a project, especially when you're still on a cbt!

You could buy a running 600 for the cost of fixing that

Just thinking, if that "gearbox" is actually just a sprocket then there isn't that much to do purely going by the list. I still wouldn't choose it as a project myself but if I was going to do it I would knock up a price list of the bits you need to start with so you know what you're getting your self in for. Also you will want some decent tools to avoid rounding off seized bolts. Probably a can or two of plus gas too. Plus a Manual of some sort. Plus some time and a decent well lit indoor space. Then probably chuck a couple of hundred on top of your budget to account for unforeseen bits and pieces.

The problem is that it has been sitting for a few years which plenty of bits of the bike don't like, you are often better off buying a bike on double the mileage that has done a regular x-thousand miles a year than one that has spent the last 10 years at the back of a garage.

You could very easily spend a year and a couple of hundred quid doing the bike up and not even be able to test whether it works until you have spent more money on doing your tests. Then you could start to ride it and discover 1000 miles later that your valve stem seals have perished and you're burning through oil and have to take the whole thing to bits again.

Edited for accuracy.

Agree with the above. How much free time, free cash and dedication have you got to get an old 1984 bike (though fairly old school cool) into a decent usable condition?

How far do you want to go with said project? Something that runs well and is mechanically sound ( still going to cost you £££'s) or do you want it to be cosmetically restored and mint?

Lastly can you/your dad do all the work yourself? If you've got to pay for having anything mechanical done it will sting you a silly amount. If you can do all the cosmetic stuff as well, filling, prepping and painting, then it might be worth while in the long run if your happy to wait long enough to be able to ride it?

Do you really need a more suitable machine for your restricted license period though first?
