Hi All,

I'm looking for a bike currently and have seen a few on ebay, barn finds etc that aren't registered, I've looked into what I need to do to register a bike but was wondering how you can check a bike's not stolen without a number plate to run a HPI check on it, I've searched the forums and not found anything and after a google I've found that there are DB's for dirt bikes but there doesn't seem to be much about normal old road bikes? The last thing I want to do is go to register something and find out it's been nicked!

Thanks!

A shot in the dark... find the frame number and call the DVLA and enquire about the bike and its status.

Frame number check as others mentioned - although if its a barn find depending on how old it is there may not be records to check against.

Find a bike you like, go view it, grab plate and VIN whilst you're there.

If they have V5 and it's registered to the place I've gone to view the bike, and all the details match, I don't bother.

In fact, don't think I've ever done an HPI

Yeah main reason to be doing a HPI in the instance of having all those details would just be a finance check - and i can't see the bike in question having finance taken out on it Laughing

Ah cheers all, I had no idea you could do a HPI check on the vim and frame numbers alone!
