Anyone know of any insurance companies that will accept people on the policy as young as 18?

Thanks, don't mind paying up to 2k and my Dad is looking to get trade insurance anyway.

I think they'd prefer under 25s went on benefits judging by how they attack any 18 year old wanting to work as a tradesman.

Best of luck though Thumbs Up

Sorry, I worded that poorly, trade insurance as in, can drive any vehicle third part up to 2L or whatever that particular companies rules are.

I just can't find any that insure people at 18, wondering if anyone did?

If your on about motor trade insurance its bloody hard, to get it at 21 I had to do advance rider and driving training with Rospa, IAM and the police and was restricted to having no more than one 1000cc+ bike on the policy at any time and no sports cars

Are you talking about the 3rd party driving extension rule? Where you can drive any vehicle 3rd party off your own fully comp insurance??

If so Quinn insurance allow this.

I think your going to struggle to find any companies who do traders policies for 18 year olds. The ones that do will want to bend you over and go in dry. Try Tradex or Coversure, a couple of mates use them but they are both over 25.

It's unlikely unless you pay silly money and then you're likely to be limited to 1400cc.

Tradex USED to do it, I had a policy with them. They no longer do IIRC. Might be worth checking though.

Have you tried phoning a commercial insurance broker?

Will get on the phone to a few, this is for a car by the way.

Dad has a business so he can get trade insurance, only reason I want it is that it 'might' be cheaper than me buying tpft insurance on cars as im looking at 3k minimum.

Think Ill just stick to bikes
Thumbs Up

There are some

Me and my mate both worked fit different companies when we were 18 on trade insurance. At 18 could drive anything up to a 1.8 non turbo then up to 21 was 2 litre turbo then over 21 was pretty much anything

I did not sort the insurance though so have no idea who it was with, I'll ask my mate if he knew what company he was with

The only other thing is you don't build no claims on trade, so if you where to get your own policy in a few years, you would have 0 ncb

Most motor trade policies run on a NCB rating for the road risks so you will have bonus but finding someone who will accept trade bonus on a private car policy might not be so easy.

Erm, do be aware that the police are shit hot on trade policies being used for non-trade purposes.

They WILL pull you over and they will make sure that you're on company business. If you're not then you're not insured (Unless your trade policy includes personal use, which it probably won't).

The cops have gotten really snarky about this recently and don't think that they won't pick on you because they will. It's silly things like having a friend in the car but not being on a test ride that will get you done for not having valid 3rd party insurance because the policy will likely explicitly state that unless you are using the vehicle for business use (Test driving after repair, Test driving to find issues, Providing a customer with a test ride/drive) then you are not covered.

^^^^ Are you talking about using trade plates, or a trade policy, which are entirely different things?

What he is on about is a company having an insurance policy that allows you to drive any vehicle you want under the third party extension.

Clutchy, you can get them I've been on one since I was 17 however up to the age of 23 the excess is astronomical, I think the policy I was on the excess was either £4,500 and there was a stipulation that certain vehicles would be legally insured but you would have to foot the bill.

I suggest you ring this number tomorrow 01633 250 282 and ask for Ben Tweddle and speak to him, he has done all my insurance for 8 years or so now, wont go elsewhere because of the service they offer.

No, I think he's talking about using trade plates, because I can't think of any circumstance where you could get pulled, just for being on a trade insurance policy.

How would the police know that, before they tugged you?

No, I'm talking about a trade insurance policy. Some policies are general cover for all vehicles and aren't registered to specific vehicles. As such the MID isn't updated and if your car gets ANPR'd then it comes up as uninsured.
