Agree with ian. Bog standards are fine and if desired could replace 3-4x as often with the money saved on an iridium Shocked

Maybe it's some kind of controlled spec part for use in a race series, and you'd be paying for approval and whatever. Or it's just marketing.

I needed a new spark plug for my XR400R and the only type plug that the shop had in stock came in a packet marked "NGK Racing Part" which is exactly the same part as the standard plug except for the packaging.

According to my 2009 NGK applications catalogue, the standard plug for the 1999-on engine is the CR10EK and the Iridium plug is the CR10EIX.

I have never had any fouling problems with the Iridium plugs in my R1 or my KTM enduro race bike.If the mixture is correct there should be no fouling problems and if there were I would have expected the standard spec plug to foul before the Iridium type.

I know on heavily modded cars people use them a lot, maybe due to the extra heat?

Doubt there are any gains on using that plug if it's not modded...

I remember back in the 90's when a set of racing plugs for a vfr 400 cost £45 a plug!!
Required the plug aperture boring out and re tapping too before they would fit!!

Still got the copy of PB from back then detailing the changes required.

Where are you getting your prices? Laughing

4 iridium NGK spark plugs cost about £25 for both my ZZR600 and my ZX9r.

The Copper ones are around £20 for 4.

It was ten quid less to do 'normal' plugs on my gsxr. So I saved the tenner and spent that on Peroni instead, it made the job more fun Laughing

Seriously, standard NGK's at £6 a plug never fucked any of my bikes up. Iridiums seem to foul easier too & never clean up right.

You should never clean iridium plugs - you will take the very thin iridium coating off and end up with expensive standard plugs!

Very true if it's a case of "if it aint broken then don't fix".

Not really true if an iridium plug is fouled then you might as well clean it because it's not going to be much use in that condition anyway.

I bought a set of 4 iridium plugs for my Gixxer for 25 quid, which are better than the standard CR9EKs.

I wouldn't bother putting them in any stroker, they'll foul up just as fast as normal ones.

I've got some NGK plugs sat around here somewhere, which would you prefer the one in three bits or the one in two bits?

You're right i think i'm thinking of the prices i paid for plugs i bought for the car Doh!

Probably more like 2x IIRC the price of the ZX6 standard ones VS iridiums.

Still would stick with standards though personally, I tryed iridiums before and personally didn't feel it altered anything, perhaps MARGINAL mpg gain but way to hard to say that for sure could of simply been difference in riding to be honest.

It's a Ducati thing. Shoulda bought a 600 Bandit Wink

Well no, as I don't fit poverty spec parts to my car let alone the Ducati, the NGKs were on a car fitted by previous owners at service.
