| HighwayCode, which he should have just read if he's a learner, wrote: | Vehicles. Any vehicle driven by a learner MUST display red L plates. In Wales, either red D plates, red L plates, or both, can be used. Plates MUST conform to legal specifications and MUST be clearly visible to others from in front of the vehicle and from behind. Plates should be removed or covered when not being driven by a learner (except on driving school vehicles). |
So, clearly visible from the front - does NOT mean stuck to the top of the mudguard where oncoming traffic can't see it.
And you've got at least one cop who will be on him like a hawk if he sees him out and about without it done properly again.
Note: "MUST" in the HC means something specifically backed up in legislation, which is why parents don't get pulled for not bothering to take off the L-plates when junior's not driving.
Or, if he manages to hold on to his licence, get the test done! Then he won't have to worry about L plates. ____________________ Honda Varadero 125cc => Suzuki Bandit 650 33bhp => 77bhp =>

My driving instructor told me he taught someone to drive with 18 points on his provisional. Far as I understand it (checked the other day), a provisional is unlimited points wise, if you pass your test whatever points are carried over, so basically if its your first license anymore points & your banned.
Think the systems kinda stupid tbh, 6 point limit should be from the date of your CBT. ____________________ Yamaha MT-03 '08 (crashed)

Not saying that overtaking on solid whites is inherently dangerous, but they're usually there for a reason and you can't exactly quickly nip around on a 125 in most cases. |
A lot of the times the 'reason' is that you wouldn't want a truck over taking a caravan there, or something.
I got filmed by an undercover bike crossing some white lines with plenty of room and excellent visibility.
The rider on the marked bike that actually busted me eventually admitted that yes, my manoeuvre was safe. However, I hadn't considered they were having a crack down that weekend as it was the May bank holiday Hastings weekend (I was down for other reasons.)
But yes, the police rider was riding like a bit of a dick, so should have worked it out (he was very slowly overtaking other cars, not crossing the double whites, but leaving them stuck in the gutter for ages.)

So at 6 points on your CBT, you're suggesting you should have... your full licence revoked, so you have to take your test again?
(Which is what happens for the first two years after you've passed your test.)
I'd say that's exactly how it works . |
