Does anyone know if theres a particular age at which insurance tends to steeply drop. I still get really high quotes [after thoroughly searching this is].
Admittedly i'm on a ZX6 so at 23 years old its probably considered very high risk even though i've got 6 years NCB.
For example this year it was 450 TPFT iirc. FC is something ridiculous like 800 so i basically just have to take my chances on TPFT each year at the moment. 2 years prior to that were around the 600-700 mark TPFT
I'm hoping at 24 it might drop a bit but ... |

In bristol which i know is bad for car theft as a generalisation, so i presume bike theft also - but my specific area of bristol at the moment is definately not going to be a hot spot which is why i've always been baffled.
Bikes are lock-garaged also. I don't know if its just because of the bikes value being 3-4k or something around that vs a slightly older model maybe i'm being stung on that but i have really searched deep each year and theres nothing cheaper to be had what so ever.
No accident of claim history or criminal charges etc litearlly a 'perfect customer' essentially - hence it baffles me why they're still so high after nearly 7 years NCB |

£450 odd on my 954 TPFT. Not too bad. A Mille at 19 was £650 IIRC. ____________________ My Flickr |

Went elsewhere and got it for £270.
Loyalty gets you nothing. |
I've just been organising insurance for a new car, which falls under the 'classic' umbrella, so I did the sensible thing and spoke to the three companies recommended by the owner's club.
The first had an extremely drawn out Q&A process, followed by lots of spiel about what was being offered, then a quote of £600+.
The second couldn't quote me because, despite it being the best selling version of the car in question, plus them being owner's club affiliated, the underwriters didn't recognise my vehicle
The third offered all the same things as the first, but the call lasted half the time and the quote was £245.
The best bit was finding a dot com comparison site that would quote me; 43 quotes, ranging from £140 to £5400
How can that possibly be?
I've been dealing with insurance companies for 30 years, both as a punter and in my job, but I still have almost no idea how they arrive at their decisions. ____________________ Things get better with age; I'm close to being magnificent........

It can honestly be as stupid as phoning them up to tell them you're now parking your bike in a garage and them putting your premium up 300% and charging you an admin fee on top.
Years ago a friend wrote a car off drunk, lost his licence and made a claim. Next year his insurance was actually cheaper! |
