Common boring story I know, just an extreme example.

So I get the renewal notice through, it's gone down from £550 to £480 (one years no claims after a break of 4 years riding)

Fair enough I think. Before I ring them up I'll just check money supermarket.

Same company, less mileage added (as I know I don't do 15000) everything else the same.

£192, a saving of £288. Ring up, changed no problem. Monthly payments now 17 instead of 43.

What the very fuck.

I should add the point is not to make a "eh look at me" thread, more that I'm annoyed that we're all constantly hoodwinked. I check online every renewal, but I've never seen such a drop with the same company.

They must make so much coin out of serial renewals. Everytime my car/house/bike comes up for renewal its always considered a best offer. Similarly theres the old 'have you had a quote, if so whats your best price' why on earth would they want to know that unless they were going to quote you a penny under it despite the actual quote being 100's less.

Incidentally, 31 years old, no claims/convictions, 6 years ncb, garaged RSVR1000 - TPFT £96, FC £127. Go figure!

Does anyone know if theres a particular age at which insurance tends to steeply drop. I still get really high quotes [after thoroughly searching this is].

Admittedly i'm on a ZX6 so at 23 years old its probably considered very high risk even though i've got 6 years NCB.

For example this year it was 450 TPFT iirc. FC is something ridiculous like 800 so i basically just have to take my chances on TPFT each year at the moment. 2 years prior to that were around the 600-700 mark TPFT Doh! Doh! Doh!

I'm hoping at 24 it might drop a bit but Thinking ...

You in a high crime area or something?

I'm 21 and have a Multi-bike policy with Carole Nash
I pay £250 for my ZZR 600 (all mods declared- no change as none affect the power output) and a CG (Daytime-only at moment)
They quoted me £120 to add a ZX636 A1P (looks same as 00-02 but is overbored to 636) to my policy which would only be £370 for three bikes.
that's 5 years NCB by the way.

In bristol which i know is bad for car theft as a generalisation, so i presume bike theft also - but my specific area of bristol at the moment is definately not going to be a hot spot which is why i've always been baffled.

Bikes are lock-garaged also. I don't know if its just because of the bikes value being 3-4k or something around that vs a slightly older model maybe i'm being stung on that but i have really searched deep each year and theres nothing cheaper to be had what so ever.

No accident of claim history or criminal charges etc litearlly a 'perfect customer' essentially - hence it baffles me why they're still so high after nearly 7 years NCB Shocked

£450 odd on my 954 TPFT. Not too bad. A Mille at 19 was £650 IIRC.

I swear insurance companies just lob darts on a dartboard and use that to create renewal quotes. My gixer last year was £400 fc, they wanted £600 to renew and I managed to get it for £300 by phoning around. Allegedly the company I was with wasn't offering the same level of cover for me so they offered the next best (and cheapest, lol) alternative.

Wouldn't suprise me.

Probably don't even have staff in the quotes office - just a giant roulette wheel endlessly spinning and picking numbers.

You have to be some sort of idiot to not look around every renewal time. My missus car insurance with Tesco was £647 at renewal - admiral £194!!

Cunts!

Insurance on the R1 at 25 is now £360 TPFT.

ebike multi policy is TPO and if I remove the R1, they refund me £473. Works out cheaper for me to bin the R1 and buy another bike Laughing

I'll remove it if and when I trade the R1, but quotes for things like 954s and TL1000R's come in at the same price for me ~£200.

I looked at a Ducati SS 600 because one with a receipt for a big service 2 weeks prior was going for £600 (although despite being called 'supersport' it's lower spec than an SV650. Wouldn't quote to add to my policy and wanted £695 on it's own policy; purely because of it being a Ducati.

My car insurance was 670. After 6 months I changed to a cheaper car and when i told them it actually reduced my premium enough to get some money back. When it came to renewal they wanted 720!
Went elsewhere and got it for £270.

Loyalty gets you nothing.

Its hard to compare though, when I was 21 I was paying £600 tpft with 1 years ncb on a CBR6, however you were only 11 at the time lol. Its bizarre that insurance is a legal requirement yet no-one can work it out with any degree of accuracy. Just goes to show its a game stacked in their favour.

Someone mentioned cars, full ncb 31years old brand new Leon 1.2tsi £130 fc. Last car was a volvo c30 t5 - £210 fc, before that nissan xtrail diesel £410 fc lol

I've just been organising insurance for a new car, which falls under the 'classic' umbrella, so I did the sensible thing and spoke to the three companies recommended by the owner's club.

The first had an extremely drawn out Q&A process, followed by lots of spiel about what was being offered, then a quote of £600+.

The second couldn't quote me because, despite it being the best selling version of the car in question, plus them being owner's club affiliated, the underwriters didn't recognise my vehicle Rolling Eyes

The third offered all the same things as the first, but the call lasted half the time and the quote was £245.

The best bit was finding a dot com comparison site that would quote me; 43 quotes, ranging from £140 to £5400 Shocked

How can that possibly be?

I've been dealing with insurance companies for 30 years, both as a punter and in my job, but I still have almost no idea how they arrive at their decisions.

It can honestly be as stupid as phoning them up to tell them you're now parking your bike in a garage and them putting your premium up 300% and charging you an admin fee on top.
Years ago a friend wrote a car off drunk, lost his licence and made a claim. Next year his insurance was actually cheaper! Shocked

I forgot to mention, the outfit that quoted me £140 on the comparison site, was the online version of the club recommended crew, that wanted me to pay £615.

Go figure Confused

I did a quote on a r6 as if i had a full licence and fully comp and 20 y/o was on £400 f/c.

With me and the Missus moving in together in the next 3 months and our baby being born I,m going to learn to drive

Did the normal cars for a 20 y/o

Fiesta 1.4 06 - £2k
Corsa 1.4 55 - £2.2K

Then as a joke (i can afford to run one)

Landrover Freelander 2.5TDi on a 55 (or near that) £1k

So fuck nows how it all works lol

A lot of it is done on profiling. How many young guys have written off your car of choice? Fuck loads if it's a corsa!

My current pimpmobile is a 1.2 8v punto blasting out about 56bhp. It's very cheap to insure.
