It gets said a lot on here but it's always worth repeating, if it makes one person think it's worth the effort. After a heatwave that's lasted a month in some places in the UK, the roads are dryer and grippier than they've been for a long time at the moment. However plenty of people don't realise a lot of that grip comes from the enormous amount of rubber laid down onto the tarmac from vehicles, combined with the fact that any oil, diesel or other spills soak into the warm tarmac almost instantly so don't prove a problem.

As soon as your local roads get that first sprinkling of rain after being hot and dry for so long all the rubber, oil and crap is washed out of nooks and crannies and lifted to the surface. The first few rainy days after a long hot spell can turn roundabouts into ice rinks and make the roads slippery as hell, so don't just treat them as the 'normal' wet road last time you rode it.

Good points though - i nearly learnt this the hard way in my first year riding on the ped, did a 180 on the spot and fell on my side as i went to exit my little side road bike and rider survived all be it with a heavy shame

And...it's here. "They woke to grey English mornings" - and distinct signs of precipitation! Frothing in the gutters, varnishing the streets and roads with slick, diluted lubricants. Oiling the white markings and manhole covers in a most efficient and timely manner.

After some glorious weeks - marked by hot, long evenings and perfect dawns - it's here. Keeping those lovely machines in the dimness of the garage. Running down your windows as you troll BCF n00bz and banter frustratedly.

Ah fuck it - had to happen. Question is - will August manage to right itself, and can we hope for something of an indian summer in september and onwards. Course, no one's making predictions at the Met nor elsewhere. But we're fucking owed it - especially after last year.

If it continues like last night i won't be leaving the house let alone going on the bike - had the largest storm i've ever seen near bristol last night, the whole sky was flashing like a strobe light for about 3 hours, looked like the city was being bombed on the horizon

Jesus Christ your all acting like you've never riden in the rain before Ride into work this morning was fine, there was plenty of grip despite it having pissed down. If it had only rained a tiny bit then it might have been tricky.
