 |
|
Being a bike man, I know sweet FA about cars......other than we need a new company one.
That ideally meets this Criteria:
Reliable
2008+
under 50,000 miles
5 Door
Fast sport Diesel
Not too huge physically as parking is already tight.
Not to fussed about MPG or TAX Class.
Test drove this today https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HONDA-CIVIC-CIVIC-EX-I-CTDI-SAT-NAV-MILANO-RED-/181160441840?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item2a2e00f7f0
They want £8100 with the 2004 Citroen C3 1.4hdi. Which they valued at £1100 (we buy any car say £1250 online quote).
Is this a fair deal?, mileage is more than we'd like but it was nice to drive and fairly pokey,+ If Honda make good bikes, cars must good too
Had thought about a German build, as my dads always biggin' up his Merc. So considered a BMW 1 series but heard something about steering problems
Any other suggestions/recommendations really appreciated. ____________________ Chase my Witch up, Catch my Snitch up.

Diesel cars will be going down the pan in a few years thankfully, direct injection petrol will becoming more popular instead.
I personally would not have a modern diesel as they are all compromised by harmful emission reducing technology that essentially fucks the engine up over a period of time.
Diesel sucks. ____________________ Cbr1100xx blackbird gone, mk4 golf gt tdi chav now

Thanks to all for your wisdom.
I've read it all and we decided to basically disregard most of it apart from a bit of Vrak and Stevo B4 posts, (steer clear of french and go Jap) In that we...
Put a deposit down today on a 57plate Toyota Auris 180T 2.2 diesel, with 45,000 on clock. advertised locally at toyota dealership for £6495
We offered £4850 + C3.
They accepted.
Bland interior, but 175hp sounds usable , and not totally cleaned out
well?

Not a car that sits well with turbo nutters then?
I'd say the OP has got a fair deal there, the Auris 2.2D doesn't seem to hold high residual prices like the Civic etc. Too big an engine for attractive tax bands etc.
Bland could be good though, as when a re-mapped Auris diesel fly's past some in your face hot hatch like a Type R Civic or Clio 200RS that would have to be a moment worth seeing on their driver's faces.
I've never been particulary convinced that anything BMW is superior to a decent fwd saloon of the same spec etc. They and Merc's drive the right wheels granted, but what else do they do so well that makes them better than alternative executive choices? Plus as other's have said BMW's are very diluted down in that the whole range is far from the ultimate driving machine, just a few models with a much higher spec being worthy of that status. |

Bit of a moot point now the OP has got a motor, but....
I've got a 2.2CDTi, and whereas it has its bad points (fucking awful turbo lag and the air con like someone blowing through a straw), lack of space isn't one of them. They are really quite roomy inside. I can get my Marshall half stack, 2 guitars in hard cases, all my leads and shit and a PA in the back with the seats down.
In terms of popularity they should be called the Honda clitoris... every cunt has one. They are bloody everywhere, but to be honest I didn't really notice till I got one.
Emissions wise, I'm not sure what the CO2 shizzle is, but tax is £140 a year. It'll do 40mpg around town too, and much better on a motorway run.. ____________________ "I hate to advocate drugs, alcohol, violence or insanity to anyone, but they've always worked for me." Hunter S Thompson

Why a second hand company car? The tax is based on the list price, even if you buy it for £500 - so may as well get a new car. To keep up front costs down and be most tax efficient, get a new lease hire. ____________________ Current bike: Kawasaki Z750S |
