 |
|
So I may be having a slight career change and will be needing some reliable transport for a while. If all goes to plan I will be able to purchase a pretty much brand new bike so am thinking of a new street triple (maybe an R)...
But...
I am on a 33bhp restricted license until next June. I almost certainly won't have the time and if I do I really will have better things to do than re-doing my tests again. So does anyone have any experience of what a street triple is like restricted? and how do they stand up to the daily commute? I will be likely to use it daily unless it snows heavily.
I've also considered the MT-09, although apparantly there's a waiting list already and I'll need the bike fairly quick if I get the go-ahead. Are there any other bikes that measure up to the triumph, as from what I've read in the press it seems to be in a class of one, although I have only read British magazines |

I see two people near me communting on them all year round all weathers so presume theyre practical enough, not sure how fuel efficient they are but guessing that might not be a huge issue if youre splashing out on a new bike
I had my 636 zx6 restricted to 33bhp for 2 years never had any issues or felt choked off at any point. If youve never ridden anything big unrestricted it should feel plenty fast enough id imagine |

Cheers guys, exactly the sort of encouragement I'm after so far.
I'm currently riding an Aprilia Pegaso 650 that's restricted, which seems to handle the restriction fairly well as a single it has plenty of low down grunt. As for all the posts regarding fuel economy, thanks, but I'm not at all bothered that, it's likely to be better than the 33-35 ish I get from the peg anyway
A rather massive issue I've realised after popping into the local Yamaha dealer to enquire about the MT-09 is that I really can not test ride one before purchase. Dealers don't seem to want to restrict bikes for test rides... don't suppose any one has a restricted street triple in the midlands that they'd let me ride round the block |

Cool, anything more than spraying it with acf50 or similar and the occasional wash? |

Yeah you will have issues with that. You might find someone who will let you ride their full power example...I've met about 1 biker that actually cared about their 33bhp restriction
Also there is something wrong with your Aprilia: https://www.fuelly.com/motorcycle/aprilia/pegaso ____________________ Riding: BMW R1150RT `02 bought mildly crashed

I really wouldn't worry about the restriction at all - As sam said, i've never known anyone thats had a restricted 600 moan about them beyond the obvious little 'cant wait to be unrestricted' etc sort of comments but theres not because they're performing badly - just they want to experience a full bike as i'm sure you do anyway
But as with my ZX6 - there is plenty of power there with a 33bhp, i would of considered leaving mine on longer to be honest if it had for example made insurance cheaper or something of the like - the power really isn't that bad unless you're obsessed chasing tiny 0-60 times or something, even then though you'll be quicker than 99 percent of cars by a long shot i'd of thought |

Super big clean in April or May, including going over it with Super Resin Polish and then waxing. Maintained with Autoglym shampoo when I get round to it. I might wax it again this month, apart from that, that's it. ____________________ Triumph Daytona 675 track bike + girlfriend's Honda Hornet 600
