I used to have a ttr250 with offroad tyres which was lethal on roads in the wet.

I did have some supermoto wheels that someone had made, but never got round to fitting them before it got nicked.

If I got another ttr250, I probably still wouldnt get round to fitting them. There is also the performance of changing the front brake.

However last week, I saw a honda 125 offroad bike with what looked like sports bike tyres on offroad rims.

The tyres were bridgestone battleaxe, I didnt think to get the size at the time.

So are there loads of these sort of tyres available to turn offroad bikes into supermotos without having to have small wheels ?

What size are they typically ? Do they use the kind of numbering that would be on an offroad tyre ?

I know very little about MX bikes and the like but presumably you can get some road biased dirt tyres as fitted to the likes of the triumph tiger and BMW Gs?

Do you still have those wheels? I wouldn't mind some motard rims for my TTR. Sorry I can't help with the thread but it did pique my interest.
The tyres may be road orientated tyres in dirt bike sizes, like c_dug says.

I dont want to let the wheels go, as I'm still kicking myself for selling a spare tt600 front fairing that I now need.

Plenty of options for road biased tyres in trail sizes.

I like the Sahara 3's which I'd describe as maybe 80% on-road/20% off-road.
You certainly need to be a bit braver off-road and in muddy stuff it's generally a case of letting the bike go where it wants (often including foliage) and hold on!

For the bridgestone, the BW501 and BW502 seems to be the current stickies trail-size tyre they offer. (Ah, they only do a 17 rear Rolling Eyes, you'd have to go for a 202 rear.)

That's fair enough, I just thought it was worth a go.
I would like a spare set of wheels, one with some Pirelli scorpion MT90 on, like I had on my Varadero, the other set will have my AC10's.

By coincidence I've been looking out for a TTR or similar and several sellers have a second set of wheels with road tyres on for a supermoto style.
That would be the ideal I suppose, and you can have more serious dirt tyres on the other set if not being hammered on a commute.
