Is it just me, or after spending £170 on a super soft rear tyre...I want to keep it off the motorway?
Got a 300 mile round trip next week, with a high percentage of that being motorway.

I go budget [within reason] on my zx6's tyres and i've never felt that way personally - as far as i'm aware its not so much the speed limit and road youre travelling on more how harshly youre doing so, i.e warming it up gradually over time, accelerating more calmly will decrease tyre wear.

Versus blasting away 0-60 in 3.230232312413 seconds from the lights tends to burn them away faster, as does going from common road speeds to suddenly 100mph hooning it down empty roads.

I may be wrong, but as i said i go for relatively budget tyres and they last me damn well to be honest - but i ride 'cautiously' Wink

I normally ride like a twat, but after parting with £170 I'm like driving miss daisy. I accelerate harder in the corners now to compensate for the straight roads, haha....got to put touring tyres on next year, if there's any rubber left, then I'll keep the tyre for when I ain't tourin' innit.

Pennies per mile, riding like a twat will cost a lot more than aggressive riding on tyres will Wink

Also accelerating IN corners, particularly on new tyres probably isn't the best idea Shifty , end of the day - straight line speed within reasonable limits wont harm your tyres much, hooning it away from 0-100, flying round bends at increasing speeds and generally riding like terminator will probably sooner or later cost you somewhat Mr. Green go steady, tyres cheap or not are built to take wear, but theres a tipping point between wear and abuse Razz

That's why I ride like miss daisy now, lol.

They've been on for around 100(ish) miles, and in the heat wave we have had, have been super sticky...so I just got to lean greater, quicker. What got me thinking about this, is before I replaced the tyre whilst still on the old one(illegal lack of tread) I went 2 up for a friend who was picking up a gsxr, and in the heat+2up+motorway, it totally squared it off.

On the zx6, I used to ride it aggressively hard, now Im just thinking of the £'s.

Still ride the GPZ like a twat though Thumbs Up Mr. Green

Personally to be honest i dont even consider tyre wear - i would think to significantly wear the tyres out faster than average you would be far more likely to be financially fucked from fines/crashing via police/insurance etc than through increased tyre costs, they're fairly robust on roads, unless you literally spend hours a week hooning it down the motorway at obscene speeds of course Laughing

As with the situation you mentioned also, i've understood that once worn to a point they should be replaced they significantly increase in wear-rates vs that of a fresh tyre, so the longer you leave it, the quicker it declines, so if accurate that might explain why it 'suddenly' went down after being two-up etc.

I'd have to agree with that.

Can you recommend a good set of touring tyres? Lol

Is your bike the 2005 with digital display?

Yeah digital 05 - i've only ever used sport/sport tourer tyres personally, tourers may be fine, ironically maybe better for my riding style to be honest but couldnt find anyone or anywhere with experience of using them to feel confident to give it a shot.

Ah Laughing

Nah no idea, haven't heard of it being such a clear cut thing as using the dash buttons though [may be wrong]. Would of thought its more internal within he electronics, considering the amount of times i've buggered about with the dash at clock-changes etc without the manual to hand Laughing

£170 for a single tyre?!?!! Confused

Surely buying sticky tyres and then riding in a way to try and avoid tyre wear completely defeats the purpose of them?

I've been riding on K1/K2 Racetecs since June, road and track with quite a bit of motorway. They aren't square yet. You haven't actually told us the tyre in question? Unless its a track compound I wouldn't worry.

I always go sport touring tyres now, the dual compound seems to help them keep there shape better for the odd motorway mile. Alot of my mates say they won't cos they're scared the tyre will step out on them, I think they're seriously over estimating there ability tbh!!

Road riding i've never even noticed a difference sports vs sports touring to be honest, i'm sure perhaps on track its a different matter, but otherwise they're fine [and tend to be much cheaper i've found hence the move to them in the first place for me]

My tyre preference; the cheapest there is. I really couldn't give a shit about names or reviews. The onyl tyre thats gives me a few concerns were Shinko on a gsxr-1000 but now that I have a cheap bike again, i'll opt for the cheapest. Mr. Green

Why would you put super soft tyres on a bike which is used on the roads? Do many people do this? What tyre do you have?

Just watched your video, didn't realise the T30s were replacements for the BT23s. Wonder how they compare or if they've improved much?

Edit:

Just read the youtube comment that says you can expect to get 5-10% less range on the T30s due to 'improved wet/dry performance' must be a softer compound?

It does....I was talking of prolonged motorway use and paranoia.
