I go budget [within reason] on my zx6's tyres and i've never felt that way personally - as far as i'm aware its not so much the speed limit and road youre travelling on more how harshly youre doing so, i.e warming it up gradually over time, accelerating more calmly will decrease tyre wear.
Versus blasting away 0-60 in 3.230232312413 seconds from the lights tends to burn them away faster, as does going from common road speeds to suddenly 100mph hooning it down empty roads.
I may be wrong, but as i said i go for relatively budget tyres and they last me damn well to be honest - but i ride 'cautiously' |

Pennies per mile, riding like a twat will cost a lot more than aggressive riding on tyres will
Also accelerating IN corners, particularly on new tyres probably isn't the best idea , end of the day - straight line speed within reasonable limits wont harm your tyres much, hooning it away from 0-100, flying round bends at increasing speeds and generally riding like terminator will probably sooner or later cost you somewhat go steady, tyres cheap or not are built to take wear, but theres a tipping point between wear and abuse |

That's why I ride like miss daisy now, lol.
They've been on for around 100(ish) miles, and in the heat wave we have had, have been super sticky...so I just got to lean greater, quicker. What got me thinking about this, is before I replaced the tyre whilst still on the old one(illegal lack of tread) I went 2 up for a friend who was picking up a gsxr, and in the heat+2up+motorway, it totally squared it off.
On the zx6, I used to ride it aggressively hard, now Im just thinking of the £'s.
Still ride the GPZ like a twat though ____________________ If everything seems under control, you're just not going fast enough. |

Personally to be honest i dont even consider tyre wear - i would think to significantly wear the tyres out faster than average you would be far more likely to be financially fucked from fines/crashing via police/insurance etc than through increased tyre costs, they're fairly robust on roads, unless you literally spend hours a week hooning it down the motorway at obscene speeds of course
As with the situation you mentioned also, i've understood that once worn to a point they should be replaced they significantly increase in wear-rates vs that of a fresh tyre, so the longer you leave it, the quicker it declines, so if accurate that might explain why it 'suddenly' went down after being two-up etc. |

Ah
Nah no idea, haven't heard of it being such a clear cut thing as using the dash buttons though [may be wrong]. Would of thought its more internal within he electronics, considering the amount of times i've buggered about with the dash at clock-changes etc without the manual to hand |

My tyre preference; the cheapest there is. I really couldn't give a shit about names or reviews. The onyl tyre thats gives me a few concerns were Shinko on a gsxr-1000 but now that I have a cheap bike again, i'll opt for the cheapest. |
