So I went to a bike meet with my mate, then we met some people my mate knew, then went for a ride. They where all dickheads who where no older than me (18). All doing 90mph +. For a bit I kept up with them (up to the speed limit), until I had a very near miss with a car coming the other way, then I left them at the next town.

Still shaken up after the near miss, which was purely down to me thinking I had to keep up with the knobbers Shocked

What is the point of riding like this on the public road? I ride to feel the wind in my face, to avoid sitting in a car and because I like bikes. I don't get a kick out of risking my life like these people did.

So at least I now know why I ride, and who I like to ride with Thumbs Up

sorry for the rant Embarassed

Sounds more like pushing your limits and riding out of your riding capability's.

If they want to ride fast, leave them to it, they weren't doing it with you pillion, you didn't have to keep up, you chose to! Thumbs Up

So basically you rode faster than you're capable of safely riding and now it's their fault?

At least you learned with only a close call that you should ride to your own abilities, not any one else's.

No I'm not blaming them, I am blaming myself for not realising sooner that I don't want to ride like that. And by their standards it probably wasn't a close call, but it was too much for me. I'm gonna do the Bike Plus soon. It was their cocky nature I didn't like

Yes, but YOU chose to ride in "their cocky nature" that's your own fault.

They're better/faster riders than you. People can ride how they want, it isn't your job to call them names for their riding, they're having fun, they mess it up, well it's them in hospital/the grave. Leave them to it. If you don't want to ride like that, then don't.

Jesus, 90 is just tootling... I think perhaps you should go back to a 125.

I literally wake up on my bike in the morning and I'm already doing 120mph, and have been all night. I have a bed on there, with a sensible and well fitting onesie attached. They call me the Shark, because I'm always moving.

Yep, nothing you said is justified, all on your own head. If it makes you feel any better someone stacked it at a meet down my way this eve, looked like no injury and minor damage but with how he did it ill bet he is feeling a little sting in his pride Wink (Assuming he)

Well yes, I admit I am a wimp. I come from a family of wimps, and i'm the first person in my family ever to own bike. My parents don't even drive Embarassed

I don't do sport, cant watch the moto gp without thinking someone is going to get smushed, and last and worst, I know how to knit.

Now people are going to say "so why do you ride a bike" Rolling Eyes

We're all guilty of this at some point. Compared to some of you I'm probably slower. But I'm happy and don't step over my personal limits.

Some like to push it and find the limits of adhesion. Not a fan of that personally, seen too much road corn beef for that.

You ride a bike cos you enjoy it. No justification necessary.

You would say that. If you can't keep up don't step up mate. Just go home or find slower riders.

I'm quite happy doing both to be fair. I'll say to my mates beforehand on what pace we go.

Time and a place for it and all that. Thumbs Up

Can you take x corner at 100?

If not, the better rider can.

Taking a corner at 100mph when few others can has little to do with skill though, they may well be a better rider, but they could also just have no concept of self preservation. Too many variables.

Is Mcguinness a better rider than Rossi, cos Rossi daren't do the TT?

Edit: if we're talking about road riding.

But what if the person who doesn't take x corner at 100mph knows that there is a new loose road surface halfway round that corner and slows down a bit? Or has seen a tractor about to exit a field.

good chance the first one has aswell then. Rolling Eyes

You can't say 'oh what if x might aswell be a pussy' means you are an ace rider, a sensible rider maybe, but not an ace rider.

See now what is 'lad' like is seeing the tractor and not giving a hoot and nailing it past regardless.

What a question Laughing Speed and making good progress is a product of skill and ability and it helps if you are familiar with the roads. The fact you nearly binned it trying to keep up shows a clear difference in levels of skill between you and the 'so called wankers'. FYI, I am a lot faster and far more stable then I was this time last year yet a friend on his aprillia 125 can still hold me off on some really good twisty roads, just like he did a few hours ago.
And last week some experienced riders showed me the other end of the scale on bigger bikes, didnt feel the need to call them anything, in fact it taught me a bit.

Just accept you suck and either work to improve if you want more ability or just be happy to cruise if that's your thing.
