This has just started doing the rounds on fb.
Obviously for folks living in rural areas with only Esso or BP fuel stations nearby it's not practical but the guy has a point - whether or not it'd achieve much is another thing.
So, read it (or not) and let the naysayers commence!!!

With the price of petrol going up more each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the price of petrol come down is if we hit someone in the pocket by not purchasing their petrol! And we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves. Here's the idea:

For the rest of this year DON'T purchase ANY petrol from the two biggest oil companies (which now are one) i.e. ESSO and BP.

If they are not selling any petrol, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit. But to have an impact we need to reach literally millions of Esso and BP petrol buyers. It's really simple to do!!

Now, don't wimp out on me at this point... keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!!

I am sending this note to ten people. The person who sent it to me also sent it to 29 other people. If all of you send it to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 100) it will have reached 300...and if those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000) ... and so on. By the time the message reaches the sixth generation of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers! If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted! If it goes one level further, you guessed it.....

THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!!

Again, all YOU have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all (and not buy at ESSO/BP). How long would all that take? If each of us sends this email out to ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days!!! Acting together we can make a difference. If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on.

PLEASE HOLD OUT UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES It's easy to make this happen. Just forward this email, and buy your petrol at Shell,Asda,Tesco, Sainsburys, Morrisons, Jet etc.
i.e. Boycott BP and Esso

I like the idea. Although it's not so much of the stations that are the issue...

Yes you can, it is this sort of thinking which empowers those who run the system.

While there is violent protest which changed S Korea and Taiwan from repressive states.

There is also the undermining technique. The state costs a LOT of money to run.

If you simply avoid taxes as much as possible the state loses its income and it can no longer function properly.

While they can print money (like now) they can't do this forever and printing money undermines themselves.


For instance I used to drive with a very heavy foot everywhere. I now ride a bicycle. This deprives the government of money in which to waste.

The devaluation and fall in wages is causing this to happen, so the government have to print money to make up the difference.

Guys, guys, if we just all stick to our guns and refuse to give our business to Fossilsludge no matter how much they cut their prices, then Dinogas will also cut their prices even though their sales are going up.

Oh.

Hang on.

There's less than 65 million people in the whole of the UK, approximately half of which have a driving licence... How many of those only have a BP or ESSO within a reasonable driving distance? How many would even bother to change a habit like where they fill up?

When one of these 'campaigns' actually bothers with things like counting or practicalities, I might listen.

I don't know 29 people who drive cars or ride bikes..
I work with about 15 people and not all of them drive anyway... but I don't know them and I'm certainly not going to convince them to stop buying petrol from Esso....
Mind you, Jet garage is the cheapest around here by 2p or something haha....

Oh and surely if everybody starts buying petrol at Tesco they will ramp the price up, same with Morrisons etc.

Counter productive if you ask me.

Tesco: Oh look lots of people are buying petrol here, lets ramp the price up!
Esso: Oh nobody is buying petrol here, they all seem to be going to Tesco... let's put it down 1 penny off Tesco

Then everybody starts going back to Esso.


Here is something else that is just as pointless.

I dunno it works sometimes on a countrywide level.

Koreans for example won't buy Japanese consumer goods (they will buy musical instruments).

Japanese to spite the Koreans back won't buy Korean stuff or buy rice from anybody else but their own farmers.

The Chinese won't buy Japanese stuff, without a big ruse, Panasonic for instance had to make a deep subsidiary called National.

The Vietnamese won't buy Chinese stuff because of the 82 war, and vice versa.

Meh petrol prices will go up until they can create a better source of power. Whether this will be electric or something else is up to date, but even then it will still get taxed heavily.

Even if by some lucky chance they made a car that takes in Carbon Dioxide and puts out Oxygen they would still heavily tax the bejeebers out of it.

I've got a better idea.

Four of us go down the M25 Clackett Lane services at 2am in full biker gear/tinted visors etc, wait for the fuel truck to arrive come resupply hour, and then nick it.

Because even that has a better chance of working than what OP's proposing.

But but but BP let me sit on my bike with my helmet on and fuel up, I can then walk into BP with my helmet and always one will crack a joke about bikes and how much they want one but are too scared Wink



tldr, whoever inconveniences me the least gets my money. Anyway like someone else said, 60% is tax, 47p a litre is a reasonable amount (IMO) to pay per litre, so cry to the government.

These sort of 'protests' are utterly futile. These companies are global, even with the likes of -drumroll- facebook being used as a tool to get people involved it will never have a marked impact they give two fucks about.

Personally, i fill up where is closest/convienient. In my case the garage that doesn't ever ask me to remove my hemet, and has small queues.

Perhaps pay a few pennies more per litre than others within the local area, but in either case, i'm more concerned with just getting on with my day that worrying about which one-of-many global companies gets my extra pennies.

The other thing Ill add, I don't know about anyone else but I never actually check the price of fuel anywhere. If I need fuel I pull over and fill up at the nearest place

Driving another mile or 2 out my way to use a different company that's 2p cheaper just massively defeats the point
