Hi

Basically just got a bike the other day and took out insurance the same day. Went for a ride and somebody turned right (oncoming) and drove across my path and ended up colliding, the bike looks to be written off.

The accident clearly was the other drivers fault. As has agreed by my soliciitors. I haven't yet told my insurance but not sure if I have to as the solicitor said that the claim is from the third party completely.

Does this mean that I can cancel my policy, as I didn't even use it for one day and as nobody is claiming from my insurance and i'm not using the bike.

Any ideas?

P.S This is not my first bike, I have several other bikes, just bought this one for commuting.

I never told my insurance when I got knocked off, ad I cancelled it soon after, never had an issue.

If you've had an admission of liability from the other party's insurer, go ahead, it's got nothing at all to do with yours.

Ongoing duty of disclosure and a statement of facts which would ask accidents or claims regardless of fault......

I have here a £35.45 invoice from eBike for cancellation even though they still owe me refund money from mid-term policy changes and also stated explicitly that the cost to cancel would be £0 when I did it online.

See where I'm going? Insurers, with the usual respect, cry "Marquis of Queensberry!" while kicking us in the nuts.

This is eerily similar to what happened to me. Commuting home an oncoming car turned right (my left) to exit the road, and we had an intimate moment followed by a hospital visit.

Hope you didn't come off too badly and got away as lucky (or more) as I did, bruising and concussion.

Now I'm a tad lost about insurance, I have another bike (same model, same year) but what would be the best way to go about insuring it?

Tell insurers my numberplate has changed..

Get new insurance for current bike and cancel old policy..

I'm struggling to get in contact with insurers at the moment, as they're off for the weekend, but I could buy online. I understand I'm covered right now, as the seller had his insurance, and I had his permission to ride the bike (covered for riding other bikes.) So I'm legal, but what would be the best way to go about getting myself insured for the long run?

I was TPFT but I'd rather have FC if I can, though my policy runs until Feb '14.

seems as though you're within your 14 day cooling off period. cancel it. whether you disclose it in the future is entirely an different matter.

Cooling off doesn't apply when an incident which may give rise to a claim has occurred
