Having swapped my insurance to the new bike I explicitly told them I did not want my insurance auto renewing.

No prizes for guessing what they've gone and done.

Angry e-mail stating this and demanding money back in my account by the end of tomorrow (friday)

Advice on what to shout at them welcome.

well, they have taken money fraudulently and without authorisation from your account, a) wait for a refund, b) get the bank to claw the money back and the bank can chase up the case, job done

State the facts and you have copies of what was said etc the fact they've taken money fraudulently and you will inform your bank, they'll refund it straight away to avoid the Agro tbh you probably won't have to do much

Best bet is probably to ring up and stay on the phone until the money is refunded

The plan is to politely but firmly say that I'd asked for it not to auto re-new and can't afford to not have the money in my account so if they can't sort it today I'll have to go via the bank.

Meant to be in work at 8.30, their office opens at 9, bank opens at 9 so will end up being late which is annoying me more!

When and how? This is why I prefer to do everything by email, or at a minimum follow up any phone call with a confirmation email.

Should be fine though, they really won't want this issue making it to the Ombudsman as they're likely to get reamed.

If you're properly Hulking out about it, you could get on to your bank as well and tell them that the payment wasn't authorised and that you've not had a satisfactory response[*]. It would be splendid if you get double-refunded, then see how they like chasing you up for their money. Wink

[*] I apply the same principle as to my eBay transactions. If you don't want customers trash talking you, don't balls things up in the first place. Fixing your mistakes after the fact is still a negative experience.

Happened with mine, though I didn't want to auto renew (Bennetts not Bikesure, BUT I'm with Bikesure now!!!), the certificate said I would get a letter to say how much it would be. Didn't get said letter so ignored it all then they took out whatever they wanted anyway. It took a good few days for them to return it because of "accounts". In reality it's a one click process, it has to be. knobbers

Did you pay in full or direct debit? Rule #1 is to always cancel any direct debits when you have finished with a company. Thumbs Up

I had recently renewed my insurance with Bikesure because they came out cheaper than my original insurer on confused.com. Not so, I received an email 2 days later requesting I call them, (which is a pain because I'm abroad!) It turns out social domestic and commuting cover does not cover commuting to anywhere other than one place of work (not clearly detailed on website), so I was advised I needed business insurance. Their quote for business insurance was more than my original insurer MCE had offered, who I obviously went back with. Having paid for the Bikesure policy upfront, I then had to call them back to cancel. They seemed disappointed they couldn't charge me part of the policy because it doesn't start for another 2 days, gutted eh Bikesure! But fear not, the robot with the script in front of her on the phone tells me they have a standard £15 charge (that they'd never mentioned before), that they charge regardless for setting up the insurance without telling you this when taking the policy out. Apparently this was my fault they tell me because I took the policy out online, and asked for the wrong insurance, even though on paper it was the right insurance! I will not be having anything to do with this company again. Money grabbing sharks. :x
