Spraying fork lowers

As title.

The CB's forks are starting to look really poor. Previous owner didn't really clean the bike properly and riding thro the last 2 winters hasn't improved them any.

So, Been looking to see what I can do about it and it's down to spraying with Smoothrite or Rustoleum.

Anyone on here done this? And did you use etch primer and laquer with either?

From what I remember Smoothrite takes longer to cure, not sure about needing etch primer and maybe can't be lacquered because of reaction.
Just looking for forking opinions.

GrumpyGuts had a pretty good result with rattle cans.

I've also had good results from just sanding smooth, standard primer, lots of coats of rattle can silver and then lacquer.

I'm waiting for the winter months to start spraying up my bike parts, but it seems you get some decent results with the ol' rattle can and a few minutes prep

Did mine with ordinary metal primer, Halfords wheel paint (Graphite IIRC ) and a couple of coats of lacquer. That was coming up to 3 years ago and they're still holding up well.
