Hey, Ive got a piaggio zip 53 plate. Its 2 stroke. It used to run really well. Anyway, I started it up today first time in months. And fuel is leaking from the bottom... There a pipe at the very bottom between the wheel and engine. What the hell is it? I cant actualy see anywhere for it to go??

Your help would much appreciated. Thumbs Up

Thanks Damo!

It's a breather or an overflow pipe.

Most likely an overflow from the carb, if its pissing fuel you probably have a stuck float.

Give the bike a vigorous shaking, often the leaking is a bit of muck in the float valve that stops it closing off the fuel when then float bowl is full, a good shake may shift it, ideally though, strip out the carb, fuel pipe and give them a good thorough cleanout and blow through with compressed air.

Float is probably sticking. Take off the float bowl and clean the bowl and valve. When you have the float bowl off, clean everything in the carb thoroughly with petrol or carb cleaner, Once it's all cleaned, Make sure the float or float valve isn't damaged, and reassemble.

It's always a good thing to blow out the carb internals with a blow gun (compressed air) just to make sure theirs no blockages etc.

Hope that helps,

'it it wiv an 'ammer.

Serious advice is serious. Rubber or wooden mallet to the float bowl. If that doesn't unstick it, then start on disassembly.

You can consume the fuel if you rag it, that'll stop you wasting it through the overflow - but I'd recommend degunking the float Razz

Happened to me the other day. In my case, it was a simple case of overfilling the tank. Ridden it since, leaked stopped once petrol level dropped.
