The engine on my 1250 bandit makes a rattle sound when accelerating from low revs. Although the rattle goes away pretty quickly it still pisses me off. Its recently had a major service including a valve clearance job. Apart from this rattle the engine seems otherwise fine. Is this a sign the engines close to fucked?

I asked a similar question, thought it was cam chain rattle judging by other threads but I'd read.

However my main idea was where I had cleaned the chain it was slapping against the swing arm, possibly your chain is loose?

I'd of said obvious culprits are valves (but you said that's recently been checked so can rule that out)

Second obvious option would be the chain as above, check its not a touch too slack ? Could explain why it's only at Low revs, faster it revs the chain will be pulled more taught

Does it do it stationary on tick over ?

My 600 does it too, sounds like pinking when coming off low rpm with load. I ignore it, it's been doing it for thousands of miles and has got no worse.

Some say he can check his valve clearances without taking the valve cover off....

all we know is, they call him the Stig Biker.

How low revs - not piston slap is it? My old mans old one (albeit high mileage) had a touch of piston slap if you were too gentle with the throttle on take off.

It probably did, it's since departed.

Only does it when moving. Its loudest when driving in a gear that is too high.

Drive chain is fine, that tends to make more of a knocking noise when its loose ime. Anyway how safe do you think it is to ride another 6000 or so miles (until I get it serviced next) assuming it is either piston slap or a loose cam chain?

Edit: Searched for piston slap and what it sounds like. Does sound kind of like this at 30 secs in:
