I don't recall needing to cut anything on mine.

Remind me though does the dt use a rubber coupler standard as I seem to recall having one on my dt with a dep all those years ago.

You got the pipe for the correct year as yours? 1988-2003 or something like that is the ones to fit the DTR's.

You'll also need two O-rings. Similar to this: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/EXHAUST-RUBBER-SEAL-GASKET-O-RING-for-YAMAHA-YZ125-/160341274163?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts_13&hash=item255515ae33

Can find them cheaper and in a pack of two or three for about £3 just got to look for them.

You might need to take the silencer off to fit it, and it's a pain to line all the holes up. I do the two bottom 13MM bolts on the exhaust port then put in the bolt at the back near the frame then loosen the one near the engine and rotate it to fit properly.

If you have no one to help you fit the exhaust just sit on the floor and use your leg to hold it. It's what I do. Wink

And go buy loads of ACF-50. I'd go through eBay, all bike shops and Halford's didn't have any near me. Sold me some garbage that didn't work and now my exhaust is all rusty. Rolling Eyes

The gutted standard expanny is best on the DTR's. Waste of £185 IMHO. The DEP's are all dented after a single drop. Crying or Very sad

yes its the correct one mate.

and yeah lining them up is a bi*ch, thanks for that i will try it Smile

and i only payed £20 for it so the rust already got there Sad but just wanted to see if a down pipe would give it that more humph then i was gonna derestrict the standard one Smile

and did you use the pipe to exhaust rubber on yours?

thank you so much for your advice very much appreciated Very Happy

The original one wasn't no good, had to use one of them you posted in that picture. If you don't use the rubber, it'll be spitting oil all over your rear wheel and plastics. Rolling Eyes

And it's a known fault for the DEP expanny to not fit on the standard silencer. Buy an Athena from eBay or a DEP. Thumbs Up

And what year is your DT? Whilst the expanny is off, just go and get a mechanic / bike shop to remove the restrictions. If you have a DTR after 2001 they're full of restrictions. The 2002-2003 are the most restricted ones.

Best DT's are the 1996 and before ones. Wink

Loosen the silencer holding bolts, and then try and connect them. If you can't get the bolts to line up on the frame, loosen both bolts for the expanny, NOT the 13MM ones on the port though, then there is play on the exhaust to line the bolts up. Wink

Don't forget that rubber, it's important.

Hmmm, 60? Where's it revving up to? 10K RPMs should be about the norm in gear.

Mine will do 70-75MPH. It's a mere 125CC it won't go much quicker.

What's the mileage? Has it ever had a topend rebuild?

And it's a mere £20. If you drill out the silencer, chances are it won't fit the standard expanny. Rolling Eyes More than £20 then.

And the Athena silencer is this: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/YAMAHA-DTR-125-ATHENA-RACE-EXHAUST-TAIL-PIPE-DT-125-R-RE-ENDURO-RACING-SILENCER-/121031619055?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts_13&hash=item1c2e0bf1ef

The DEP expanny, depending on condition could get the rust took off and then spray it with some heat proof paint. But it wouldn't be shiny any more, it'd be black.

Thinking Sounds fishy now mate. (A person doesn't just put a bike away for a year if nothing is wrong with it and they haven't upgraded / got a car.)

You have the exhaust off? Get a torch and look up the exhaust port. Move the kick start down slowly with the ignition off and check the piston, if it's scored there's your problem.

With it being a 2002, chances are all the de-restrictions have been done...

And mopeds beating you, unless they're Runner 170-180's it shouldn't be possible. Laughing My DT smokes peds even with a wrecked topend it was thrashing them.

forgot to say he did upgrade, he did his full license

and yeah when me and a friend took of the pipe we checked the piston and everything seems fine no scores ect

but im thinking about getting a new topend anyway,

a guy wants to swap a rs125 for my dtr but he wants me to derestrict it first..

Them RS 125's always seem to get swapped when they're about to blow up.

Get Athena silencer, and get your expanny done, should be good to go. Wink
