If you are having trouble getting one to slide onto the bar, instead of stuggling for ages trying to force it on with a rubber mallet and warm water - switch them on and walk away for a few minutes.

Et voila - fitted grips. Thumbs Up

You reckon that'd work for fitting normal grips too, just stick a wraparound heated grip over the top?

It may well do, although normal ones tend to be a lot more flxible than these heated ones I was fitting.

I'm tempted myself, I'd be interested to know what you think of them.

cant fault the oxford hot grips

altho i never used the glue, and now the left grip slips round the bar when warm, but its not a big problem, once you work out why your clutch lever isnt coming back all the way Razz

ive been wearing my summer gloves since i fitted them, its ace Very Happy

I got the Oxford temp controlled grips on both my bikes and I can say that they have saved my fingers a few times when it's been very cold out in the country side late at night. They have a small dial that you can turn to adjusts the heat.

Best thing I've added to my bike(s) I can tell ya.....

On a similar note:

Ive got some replacement grips coming in the mail, as my old ones are torn at the edges (previous owner had an off).

Do you just yank the old ones off, or is there more to it than that?

Twist and pull them and they should come off. Maybe get the fairy liquid if you're really stuck. As for putting new grips on, I find if you soak them in boiling water for a few minutes they just slip on, and tighten up again as they cool.

Ok, sounds good.

No risk of say... breaking the throttle grip if I twist it too far/hard?

I've not tried them yet as you're supposed to leave them for 24 hours for the glue to set. I'll let you know tomorrow after I've tested them with my commute.

For getting old grips I always cut them off as they are going in the bin anyway. Svaes a lot of effort.

McJam - so you apply the glue after they have warmed up? I might contemplate the idea of heated grips this winter...

Think the idea is to apply the glue 24 hours before they warm up, to give it time to bond etc.

My oxford heated grips were a right b@stard to fit. Had to spend a couple hours sanding down the clip-ons as they both had slight dings in them and the grips wouldn't slide on.

Another vote for hairspray, my throttle grip started slipping recently. Removed it and reapplied using hairspay, it went on very easily and hasn't moved since.
