hi lillylel,

it looks quite dirty in there which may be the problem, stuff stiff or stuck due to the brown "dust"............

pic 11 shows kick start quadrant with a shaft going thru outer case ( the one you have removed ) to the kick start lever and possible a "dog drive" to the engine......cant zoom in to pics so not that clear.........electric start "clutch " may also be stuck and need cleaning perhaps.......

some better pics may help. also one of the "engine " to which the outer cover fits may reveal more........

So it could just need a clean

I will try that and get back to you, if I am still in a pickle

yeah but remember there is a rubber drive belt there which could slip or degrade depending what you use to clean.........does the kick start lever move and return by spring in the ouiter case?

may also move out to engage wuth eng

I can send improve photos.

electric and kick start went simultaneously.
Kick starter slips/catches then slips
Photos show some rounding & wear

Which part/element runs BOTH electric and kick start.
As that appears to have gone (teeth broke/rounded off)

hi again lellylel,

from your thumb and name am i right in thinking you may well be a girl??

no problem cos girls usually admit freely when they dont know stuff, thats why they ask and dont break stuff.

need better pics as i cant zoon in to see bits clearly.

there will be a rachet affair involved in the kick start, meaning that once kicked and held down, engine will run and make a rachetty sound as eng runs and kick start drive stays still, a bit like a push bike free wheel.

the kick start mech will also have a "clock spring" type spring to auto return the kick starter pedal to its rest position, similar to a hoover mains lead recoil ( or petrol strimmer etc recoil start ) which may well "explode outwards" if you strip the mech, so be very carefull!!!

does the k/start shaft move ( swing up and down ) freely and return by its self??

the 3? dog drive may also move in and out of mesh on the first couple of degrees mopvement of the k/start, or the gear teethed quadrant ( looks like a 1/3 of an apple pie with the "crust being the teeth ) engaging in the large toothed wheel?

you say teeth worn on this quadrant??

electric start: there will be either a free wheel devise which disconnects the starter motor from the eng else the starter motor will be turned by the engine and destroyed due to eng revs, but connects the starter motor to the engine for cranking, or the starter motor gear will move when the starter spins and engages with the large gear, either way there probably is a free wheel devise........which may be stuck.

so: common to both may well be a free wheel devise problem.

some better pics please........

this is a twist and go so the freewheel devise may well be incorporated in the front variator, the big toothed wheel.

hole in outer cover which suggests the end of the starter motor shaft fits into this hole, as a support bearing.

or is the large toothed wheel a flywheel with fan only ( with genny underneath )? more lickly a centrifugal clutch as well.

hi lellylel

looked at pic on different computer which is smaller but a better pic??

the pic shows the quadrant and iteeth but teeth not that clear but yousay are worn so......

seen the return spring you will see the hook at thecasing end so the other end will go into the kick start shafty may be sticking into a hole??or holder. so this spring will not explode out like a clock type one would but can still puncture your finger etc so be carefull.

so the kick starter is moved down causing the quadrant and its teeth ( missing ) to mesh with the teeth at the bottom of thesmallish central round bit in the pic with like a castle turret appearance or dogs.

there may be a rachet mech in that bit.

so does the kick starter pedalmove the kickstarter shaft (the bit the quadrant is attached to ) freely and does it return with spring action??

be carefull and watch yourfingers

does the centrqalcastleddog bit rotate possibly with a rachet action??

over

in pic 8 is the top of the pic the bottom of the case??and are those bits of dentistry stuck to it??

you can see the quadrant end of the return spring with what looks like a "y" connection possibly??

the dogs engage in slots in the ?"flywheel? )? to make it turn..........so must be aligned on refitting
there is a "clip" on the dog drive which suggests that its feet also fit onto something and allow it to turn comma a brake possibly or even inertia dog system or pre engage even

going for a look see etc there may be locating dowels so going to have a look etc over

so as you have sussed the dogs drive the "flywheel" dog ring held on by that nut...........keyed...........sheared and mangled "teeth".........but where's the rachet??

anyways that's the kick start system......on to electric start which will be the outer teeth on the flywheel and its drive gear on the starter.......it may have its own freewheel system........

so has it been refitted incorrectly and chewed its self to bits?

flywheel tapered and keyed to crank and sheared? or its freewheel drive perhaps..........

early days yet as bit more to find out and check.........use your eyes to see where we cant...........could you find an exploded view of the flywheel/variator? unit as would show how its held on and goes together exactly.....

use your eyes and look.........and report back tomorrow........you will learn more that way...... :karma: .

the kickstart is there for emergencies only it will wear out as it is not designed to be used all the time, it is only there so you can start the bike if the electric start fails

Ive used the kick start on my scooter every morning, from new when i set off.
I use the electric start when im out as i favour the side stand for town parking.
Ive inspected the starting mechanisms, when i changed the drive belt at 20,000kms and saw no significant wear. Still works, starts on first kick too.

hi lellylel,

you have sussed out the k start mech and what parts it needs.......

dont be tempted to use the electric start with the cover off........as it has a support bearing in the outer casing yes?

may be ok with the plug out and ign killed....

does the flywheel ( crankshaft ) turn meaning the engine aint seized..........but it does run........

more pics...........

OK, I have established that there is an issue with the half moon drive wheel and the pinion. So I will need to replace them.

As it seems that there maybe no spark, as it will not turn over, but not start.

Now also I cant seem to find how to get to the ht coil, cdi unit and reg/rec unit...I don't wanna start taking the bike to bits, if some one can tell me literally where it is on a Speedfight 2, so if i need to buy replacements, I might as well buy the parts I need all together

"Bikenut, thanks for everything so far"
Thanks a million.
